Puts on Cher wig and sings "If I could turn back time"!!
Yesterday afternoon I was looking at a kit for making bead jewellery in a chazza. It had all the bits and pieces as well as an interesting collection of beads- priced at £5. Tempted to buy but didn't. Last night, getting ready to go out for a meal* I was about to put on a much loved holiday purchase necklace of green semi-precious stones when I dropped it.......resulting in beads rolling everywhere and a broken fastener. Rushed back to said chazza to purchase kit to do a DIY mending jobbie. Gone!!! Sold late yesterday!! Aaaarrggh!
* The Saddle Room at The Forbidden Corner...... highly recommended 🤤6 -
Miro, have a thoughtful look at Hobbycraft's website so you know what the current packaging looks like? I've recognised the vendor before I've ID-ed the contents sometimes.
Or, if you can get a 'spare' fastener off an unloved thing and a bit of fishing line...
Hoping to hear of the necklace restored!4 -
Definitely no Green Nigel Slater books in my collection!
I did pop out today & acquired two 1,000 piece jigsaws for winter, £1.99 each.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I’m having a thin old time in the charity shops at the moment. All I’ve managed to find in the last couple of weeks is:
A dark grey/blue Evie short sleeved jumper with dark blue sequinned stars on the front £1.50
BN Next Paradise body lotion £1.50.
And a pale blue and white patterned cotton tote bag £1.
I know my time will come again and I also think I’m probably being more careful due to dire times we’re in. Also I do have lots of lovely CS things already!5 -
I too have found bargains thin on the ground just lately. I went into our local cs yesterday and came out empty handed for the very first time in its history. I was very tempted to buy a Jaguar shirt for £3 and it was in good condition but it had a collar and I don't wear anything with a collar if I can help it. It also had cuffs which I dislike and it was green a colour I don't wear. Despite desperation to buy something I walked away. All that clutter used to be money6

Regarding the lack of bargains lately....one of the helpers in my town told me last week that donations have dropped drastically over recent weeks. Apparently, during the height of the pandemic people were clearing out madly for something to do but now things are more back to normal, people don't have loads of surplus stuff to offload, (and the economic situation they keep telling us is about to get worse is making people hang on to stuff!). Anyhoo.....my little jauntette today produced a clear pyrex butter dish for the fridge for £1 and a Jaegar cotton lawn shirt in a fine blue & white stripe, half price at £2.25. Also one of our best hospice shops has announced it is closing with a half price sale
, another sign of the time I guess.

Re the necklace repair....Boyes of Northallerton came up trumps with some wire for threading beads so I used my best 'bobbin spangling technique', (I used to be a bobbin lacemaker yonks ago), to re-attach the rogue fastener and all appears to be sound again. Only, I must have lost a bead in the breakage melee cos the necklace is a little on the wonk now. If only dear old Albert was still around I'm sure he would have scouted out the recalcitrant bead...he once found a small diamond that fell out of my mother's engagement ring - we realised when he appeared to be batting an invisible toy around the floor...then it glistened!

I've noticed the bag has gone - wasn't me, honestly!
I've never been to the Saddle Room but The Forbidden Corner is definitely recommended (only you have to book in advance).
We were in Harrogate today: £11.48 for two shirts for DH, £1.50 for new socks, all from Shelter. (One shirt is a 'good' make, hence price).
I resisted a fabulous black cashmere sweater (£14.99 if I remember rightly) by Jaeger because it was never going to fit me - I think it might have shrunk because the label said '12' but it was nowhere near.
There's also a church (St Peter's I think) which had a book sale at £1 each. Apparently this is an ongoing venture. DH and I bought two books each, one of which we later discovered to be signed. DH's are history, mine are a cookery book and one on the story of the WI.
So Harrogate charity shops aren't all that cheap but certainly worth it if you're label hunting!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)
