I agree with Potternerd about good quality & good condition 2nd hand clothes.
I've bought my OH a genuine Crombie coat for £15.00.
Checked very carefully before buying.
Price on Crombie website £495.
I'd rather he wore that than a brand new Next coat for £150.
You can tell quality and I'd rather he went to a family'do' in an expensive suit from a charity shop - even after dry cleaning - than a new one of lesser quality.
I was the quality controller for Crombie from 1976 to 1980 and bought a coat with a huge staff discount which somehow got lost in a house move
As did my mum and dads Crombie woolen blankets which I bought at a discount for their 25th wedding anniversary
Standards were so high I had to tell managers with up to 40 years service to shut down production if I was not happy with the quality
Sore point now but we supplied the Russian Army with cloth for coats and once a year I was followed around by what I called the KGB checking my quality control results
Sadly the main production site which I worked at and which had been there since 1859 closed in 1990 and eventually turned into housing
When I worked there the company employed over 1,000 people
I remember my elderly GP saying that if you wanted to ruin a Crombie coat or suit you would need to shoot holes in it

Thirsk Cancer Research shop today: bought a thick grey throw to use as a sofa blanket in the colder months, £4.50. It called my name because it goes so well with the carpet in the lounge and should be very snuggly.
I also did very well out of the car boot sale, as did DH who bought a small picture (no idea what he paid for it) and a book that he may be able to sell on.
I found a Per Una hoodie for £1 and a cotton jumper also £1, then - amazingly - a beautiful Coast dress for £5! I'm not sure my creeping waistline will allow me to wear it, which would be a definite downside but I couldn't leave something that shape and colour sitting there looking gorgeous. My contribution to the 'new for wedding' debate is that if that dress fits, I would definitely wear it to a wedding, because it's very wedding-y but I understand people wanting to buy new for special occasions.
I also found three children's books for DGD at 50p each (great condition) and a clutch bag for 50p.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

I bought 2 100% linen 'made in Italy' summer dresses from Mencap.
Same style, one is plain taupe, the other is a mix of navy and white.
Casual style with elasticated inset and side pockets.
Bizarrely, the plain one was £6.00 and the patterned one was £5.00.
I've seen these in a department store for around £40.00.

I also bought a Weird Fish short sleeve blue and white checked shirt for the OH from the same shop for £3.50.
He likes Weird Fish, Fat Face, Mantaray, Ben Sherman and Paul Smith.
He has 30+ short sleeved shirts - almost all from charity shops.
Is that excessive?

I was in a nearby children's hospice shop yesterday, and found a BNWT black leather biker jacket for £19.99, along with a Next navy jumper with blue stars and a Matalan silky athleisure top in variegated pink/grey/blue both £4.99 each. Apparently it was this branch's turn for the Shop Direct company donations this week.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Yesterday was a good day in a local chaz: I bought a faux leather cover for my tablet, some Scholl foot gel pads, 3 hardback books and a lovely linen J Taylor summer dress for £5. I then bought a further 3 books from the library for 25p each. I'm ok for shelf space atm having had a library installed last year but at the rate I'm going I'll need to find more space but 2024.
@Wednesday2000 - Leigh is the Sth Essex equivalent of Chelsea! I will take well-made clothes over designer any day, so will stick with the Westcliff outlet store. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
