@Rosa_Damascena - yes I really did pay £8 for the book. The lovely volunteer told me that all his books fly off the shelves here and I noticed that a new hb copy from the big river is £21.66 seven years after publication.
@Cherryfudge - I did try nibbling one or two but there was hardly any flesh on mine and what there was just tasted rather dull so into the compost they went. It was my first ever try at making it and the drink was delicious and vanished very quickly so I'm keeping an eye on some promising trees that I spotted in flower earlier this year and plan to make a much bigger quantity and will remember your tip about the sugar, thankyou.
@Miró - I can see how that would work and will remember the tip for later on in the year, thankyou.
I popped my nose into my favourite BHF shop on the way back from the ruinously expensive M*rks food hall today and picked up a very good haul of trousers and tops which I'm planning to try on later this evening so I will report back with photos if any of them prove to be worth hanging on to. I also snapped up these two lovely, robust shelf organisers for £2.99 the pair.
I'm in the middle of reorganising my kitchen to make space for my Kitchen Aid stand mixer which I found on the reduced stand at John L*wis in Oxford St just over a week ago so these will come in very handy for the top shelf in my larder.7 -

I seem to have developed a charity shop addiction since I moved house! The ones near me in Essex are far more expensive than the shops I used to frequent in east London. The clothes seem higher end, though.
I went into a few shops last week and bought a handbag, a cardigan and a few other bits.
I went into a MIND shop and Sue Ryder yesterday. I did buy two very nice Oasis going out tops, a black and white midi dress, a biscuit tin and an LED candle. Almost £20. Eek.

Leigh Broadway is a waste of time, its a total bargain free-zone. Try the Havens near Topps Tiles for a pleasant surprise (its walkable from you).No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.10 -
I'm finding that a lot of charity shops are recognising the more expensive brands like Seasalt, White Stuff, Joules, Joe Brown etc.
I paid £6.50 each for a Joe Brown maxi dress and a Mistral cap sleeve dress and £7.00 for a White Stuff denim dress. All 3 are very nice and good quality.10 -

I tried the shop after I read what you said earlier. I bought a Topshop Moto denim shirt and a black handbag. It is very nicely laid out in there.2025 GOALS

An embroidery hoop for £1 in Yorkshire Cancer Research, which should help with a small project where the only hoops I can find at home are far too big. I also resisted some oddments of yarn - I feel I should give myself some sort of bonus whenever I manage to type the word 'resisted'!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I've bought a fair few basics lately but my best bargin was a pair of grey skinny jeans, originally from Mint Velvet, for just £2.00. Google results suggest similar brand new from them are usually about £79.99!Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

@Cherryfudge - you did make me laugh about the word 'resisted', I think you definitely should get a bonus for that, well done.
I said that I'd let you know about the trouser haul I picked up at the BHF yesterday. Sadly nearly all the trousers were an unbecoming cut so they and three tops had to go back this afternoon and I kept these two dull but useful Uniqlo white polo neck long sleeved tops as I wear these almost all year round and can never have too many. I also kept a pair of M*rks Sophia straight legged jeans in a lovely soft greyish black denim.
Then I gave in to temptation and bought these four cookbooks.
I'm now wondering exactly where I can shelve them without buying another bookcase so I may have to start pruning my collection soon."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."
