Miró said:Got a nice Country Casuals summer dress yesterday in the St Michael's Hospice shop in Ripon. Big pink flowers on a cream background in heavy stretch cotton fabric with cap sleeves, sweetheart neckline and a snug fitted style, B/N and priced at £5.99. Trouble came when I tried it on at home and got the zip stuck fast about 4" from the top. Just could not move the pull thingy either up nor down. (Oh the trials of living alone!!!) I was fully convinced I was going to have to sleep in the blooming' frock. There then ensued an epic half hour of Houdini-like struggling and I managed to get it off over my head thank goodness.
Today in Otley I found a B/N pair of M & S wool trousers in a dark petrol blue shade of pure wool, pleated front and turn ups for £5.99 in Oxfam, a very pretty large jug and matching plate in Hedge Rose pattern, (think it was a Boots range from yonks ago), from the 20p shop so 40p for the set. The I found a knitters handbook called Stitch'n'!!!!!!(!) with lots of lovely patterns. I seem to have rediscovered the enjoyment of knitting again after being given a huge bag of top quality yarns by a local Freecycler recently so I have been looking for patterns. (So far have made a pair of stripey socks in botany wool for me wellies and am currently knitting a Kaffe Fasset lacy scarf in variegated kid mohair and silk)9 -
@DigForVictory
OH has a much better sense of style than me so I trust his judgement mostly without question.
@Miró
More Kaffe Fasset envy here. I saw an exhibition of his maybe 1990? and I swear everyone was absolutely transfixed by his work.The colours were utterly luscious.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I bought:
4 pair of M&S opaque tights in various shades, including one pair that are reversible, black one side, chocolate the other side. Would have cost £29.50, I paid £9.00. Hospice shop
A Fat Face dark blue cardigan, I've been looking for one for ages. £2.00 Air Ambulance
A Fat Face short sleeve checked shirt for OH. £2.00 Air Ambulance.
A pair of Brasher waterproof leather walking boots in VGC. £4.00 Barnados. Google suggests around £140 new. I've been wearing my 35 year old leather boots in the garden - we've done a major makeover - so needed a replacement pair.

Today another 3 plant pots at 50p each, one white, one off white, and one a patterned grey/green/blue. The other two are textured so they'll do as they are without any 'upcycling' although I may 'sacrifice' one to try a new paint technique on....
Then I found a nice tall, curved vase plain cream £2.50 which will make a good upcycle piece too. That's what my Friday will be all about - upcycling galore!Wealth is not measured by currency8 -
@Miró that's utterly gorgeous! And your fringing works beautifully.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I discovered yesterday that a local charity shop sells new yarn of exactly the make and weight I needed for a pattern I want to make. I had a voucher to buy online but it was nearly as cheap in the shop so I bought two balls for £3.60. (Cancer Research).
Today we went to a car boot sale at Woodfield. Never been there but wow, we did so well for bargains!
DH got 3 books for £1.
Meanwhile I bought:
6 balls of new yarn @£1 each.
Antique vase £3 (matches a beautiful bowl I inherited, dates to possibly 1920s-30s)
2 large books at 50p each (gift for my sister and niece who are interested in the subject)
1 as-new child's book 20p
Tomato plant £1
Tub of child's wooden bricks 50p
Child's dress 50p
Then as we were chatting to a man who was selling up from a relative's house, I spotted a microwave. End of the day and the man didn't want to take it home so he offered it to us for £5! Excellent as ours at home still worked but the interior was breaking down. The new-to-us one has been, as they say, 'lightly used' and still has the manufacture's stickers on - and seems to work.
I nearly visited charity shops on my way home but desisted as I had so many wonderful bargains already!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
