Not much to report at the mo....just a 99p M & S, B/N t-shirt in navy, a pair of new memory foam welly-boot insoles for 50p and an Ikea square glass serving dish for 25p. Lots of charity shops round here are no longer taking donations saying they have been inundated since the last lockdown. There appears to be little turnover of stock so no incentive to keep going back. Dunno why they don't have a 'fill a bag for a £1' thingy or a clearance sale to get things moving! Can I have a little moan please? Thoroughly fed up at the mo...everything I do seems to go wrong. Today's 'disaster.'....went to get some cash from an ATM this morning...the cash started coming out of the machine then shot back inside and the flappy bit closed??? My account has been debited soooo no doubt it will be a nightmare trying to get this sorted now....aaarrrggghhh (Soz - just needed to vent)13

AlwaysAllie said:Infrequent buyer and therefore poster, but eager lurker here! What do you think of this - Hospice Shop in Kidderminster has a large rug (3x4m) in their window for £1000 😯 - couldn’t see any sign on it of the make/origin other than an addition to the price tag that states 2006 - £4950…..presumably what it was bought for 16 years ago. Would anyone spend that much on a charity shop item? I’d have thought if it really was a valuable item they’d be better off sending it to auction.AA
I'd happily pay that in a charity shop for something hand-knotted and obviously antique that was to our taste, but agree it's unusual that they're not auctioning it. Kidderminster is known for its carpets obviously.
I've seen nothing worth buying in the charity shops here and really need very little except a full length quilted coat for dog walking as my favourite(TK Maxx) Gharani Strok one that I'd had for years was so torn/haemorrhaging lining I had to ditch it 😪 Instead I have donated more jumpers (M&S Autograph, Jigsaw, Mistral etc) and a couple of White Stuff dresses to the local Cats Protection shop.7 -
@Miró you shouldn’t have any trouble getting your money back, atms are well covered by cameras. Hopefully it’s not a palaver 🤞🏻
Edit - agree with your £1-a-bag idea. Stock turnover here is slow here too, a mooch round them isn’t enjoyable now when it’s always the same stuff. If they weren’t so toppy with their prices stuff would be moving along nicely but….China is the world's largest supplier of Bibles: one factory in Nanjing prints over a million a month.5 -

Been lurking for a while, and in total awe of some of your purchases, thought I'd try out this charity shop malarkey for myself. 🙂
Bought this jug/vase, which goes perfectly with my kitchen, and complimented the 3 bouquets of flowers I got for free - my friend works in Tesco, and brings me the flowers that are getting binned that day. 😲
Cost £3 at my local hospice shop, and I love it. 🥰

About “ fill a bag…..”, I went to a far-off CS , British run, for books that they sell for a euro each. However, I spent 2 euros on two books- a bit of a disaster for me. BUT they were having a Black Friday event, fill a 30 litre rubbish bag for 3 euros . This could and should become an annual widespread event. The cash was being raked in. I went home with 4 blouses, two T shirts and two pairs of Mand S BNWT trousers. All good makes and the tshirts looked like new. Chatting to a volunteer, she said that they needed the space as a lot of it was summer stuff and they have never turned away donations and don’t want to start doing that. I said how delighted I was and she added that they were doing a special on shoes - a euro a pair. Well, my friends, I just had to start looking and got a brand new pair of flat black shoes and a bn pair of running shoes that will replace my ancient trainers. I looked up the new prices of my haul and it came to nearly 400 euros. So I went home feeling really really good . Well worth the 100 km round trip.I do enjoy everyone’s posts and a trip to St Gemma’s in Otley is on my wish list.Keep safe everyone.11

Here's my little moan (and latest purchase):
I'm off to Liverpool on Tuesday, staying overnight.
I got my little wheely case out and noticed that the wheels are shredding.
Damn.
I intended to buy a new 4 wheel one but I don't have time to do the research and get one that I want before Tuesday so I did a quick trip round the 5 charity shops in our town.
I managed to find one - a boring navy one, not my style at all - in clean condition for £4.00.
So I'll use that and donate it back when I've bought one that I really want, probably in the New Year sales.5
