@Brie - hugs from this direction too. I think @Cherryfudge is right about it being the personal things that catch the back of your throat.
@Frith - I've never heard of the brand either and agree it does sound rather yummy mummyish. The print is very attractive so I'm not surprised it caught your eye.4 -

I bought a pair of Clarks shoes, as-new £5.00
And a pair of pepper & salt grinders for Szechuan pepper and Himalaya salt. £2.00. The pepper still has peppercorns in. Wouldn't you have emptied them before donating?
Both from local hospice.9 -
@Pollycat - nice looking set and yes I agree that I would have emptied and cleaned both before donating. Interestingly I've been mulling over the idea of having multiple pepper and salt mills too, evidently we are both responding to the zeitgeist!
I very nearly bought a mini chopper which also had a button labelled grind last week but decided against it as its lowest blade was set rather high so I didn't think it would do a particularly good job compared to the kit I've already got.
It was wet, cold and gusty here today so I didn't do any chazza shopping, I'm hoping for nicer weather for the rest of the week."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Went through to Huddersfield at the weekend, not very rich pickings, but did pick up 8 cross stitch & needlecraft magazines for 25p each in Kirkwood hospice shop. Most are at least 20 years old, didn't have a thorough look through in the shop but spotted at least one chart in each mag I liked. How long they will remain in my stash without me starting to do any sewing, who knows.

The tall ones on the right have sea salt & back peppercorns in, the new ones have Szechuan pepper and Himalaya salt and the small ones have green peppercorns and white peppercorns in.
They are in Denby dishes (Hi, DFV).
I probably spend most of my time in the kitchen.7 -
@goldfinches @Pollycat I love the idea of having a S & P mill 'wardrobe'
Any recommendations for really good, trusty grinders? I've tried loads over the years and most have been very disappointing, some started out well but quickly became temperamental before giving up the ghost completely. I currently have a pale wood Cole & Mason set which are, and always have been, rubbish. My trusty set is a pair of dark wood Peter Piperm (clever name, non?) grinders which I have had for yonks and are brilliant. To stay OT all bought from charity shops for very little dosh. It's amazing how often you come across sets with musty old contents included in the chazzas6 -
One tiny buy to report: a soft toy bird that plays birdsong, from the St Leonard's Hospice shop in York. £1.
@Pollycat, those are very handsome mills, and lovely Denby too!
@yorkie_cook, you are not the only one with a stash of charts. I have two special ones saved from many years ago (a sampler with things like an Aga and a rocking chair on, and a large one of deer in winter). I hope I do them some day!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Also have a set of Cole & Mason clear perspex and they are equally useless! ( I also use the base of a Denby butter dish!)7
