Charity Shopping - New to You in '22!

Yes, it is a lamb. I buy plush toys like that for my dog from charity shops as they are much cheaper than real dog toys. I always look for ones that are £1 or less in the toy bins. I was in the process of handing it to her when I felt it had beads inside and that is a choking hazard so it will have to be donated back anyway.Brie said:
I may be wrong but isn't that a sheep/lamb rather than a teddy?? Not that it would matter to a lot of individuals who simply want something to hug.Wednesday2000 said:
I stopped in at The Cornerstone shop again and finally found a fleece top which is the pink one. That was £1 as was the red M&S cardi. The blue GAP jumper was £4 as was the Gerry Weber blue jacket. I hadn't heard of that brand, but I looked and it is quite pricey. I also got the panda cup, the reusable bottle, the ring and the teddy. All for £12.
That shop is addictive as it is quite cheap and seems to turn over it's stock quickly.3 -
Poor puppy!!! Not being allowed to play!!!! But you were of course completely right. Hopefully they will have something more suitable next time. (pet toys are very expensive.....have you tried to just have a length of very very thick rope with a couple of knots in it?? rope should be available from a ships chandler or similar shop - doubt your standard B&Q would have it)Wednesday2000 said:

I haven't tried that actually. The only dog toys that have lasted are the Kong toys. I've had a few of them ever since she was a puppy and she is going to be 11 years old next month.Brie said:

I took advantage of today's lovely weather and walked to the Barnardo's shop after lunch only to find it is closed for refurbishment and won't be re-opening until November which was a bit annoying as they didn't warn customers about this in advance. I then crossed the road to Oxfam which was again oddly bare of kitchen items and didn't find anything I liked but I was luckier in the Age UK shop. I found these three lovely books.

I'm particularly pleased with the Sergeant Cluff as it's one of the British Library Crime Classics series. The Blair cartoon book is by Steve Bell one of my favourite political satirists and a hardback for £1.49 was a bargain I couldn't leave on the shelf."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

I'd be really pleased too, I love the British Library Crime Classics series and I don't see them in charity shops very often at all. It's also sometimes quite difficult to get them from our library too !! I haven't read Sergeant Cluff, so I hope it's a good read !!goldfinches said:I'm particularly pleased with the Sergeant Cluff as it's one of the British Library Crime Classics series. Rest assured, it's not a thing in my part of Canada. Nor had I heard of "English Country Grandmother" style in anything I read for the US.Brie said:
Interesting......particularly as I'm off to Canada on Thursday.....yes I know it's a different country (unlike some yanks!) but sometimes the decorative tastes are similar.Miró said:@Brie I was reading in one of the Sunday supplements recently that the 'in' look in decor in the USA has been English Country Grandmother(!!!) and that it has now become a thing here so anything arty/crafty might just be in demand e.g. decorative thimble collections. Would it be practical, in terms of shipping costs to consider selling to the USA on EBay?
Maybe something warm and comfortable but no thimble collections, heck that makes me think of the collected spoons back in the 70s. Used to see boards of them in houses. Most useless, dust collectors ever.4 -
Only one CS purchase to report yesterday
Jigsaw puzzle, Gallison brand, 1000 pieces for £4. New on Amazon its £15 and its one I had on my list.
Sue Ryder, Northallerton.
They even had a special display for Christmas puzzles all set out, which pleased me.
I went in search of thinner knit or jersey tops for layering but couldn't find anything.
I did spot a mens medium shirt in a thick black very fine needlecord which I did debate as an oversized shirt but alas oversized was way too oversized.
Then called into Yorkshire cancer trust and debated on 3 le creuset espresso mugs in the purple I have but I don't drink espresso. So sensible heads prevailed

Thanks for this - I've just read up on this and it does seem really rather american. Blamed, in part, on the fact that there was no medieval period in the US! To add to the oddity of it all there's a list of relevant movies, one of which is Picnic at Hanging Rock. If you've never seen this it's a truly weird Australian film about some school girls who disappear and are never found. The only connection I can see to "cottagecore" is the pretty Edwardian dresses the characters wear.CAFCGirl said:
