£5 spent at Blue Cross Northallerton today: I’m especially pleased with the bread book which I used to have and lent out.
I've lent out a few favourite books in the past never to see them again. I've got to get yet another copy of The Incredible Journey and also All Passion Spent. I've happily given away a few cookbooks to friends once I've copied out the 2 or 3 that I use regularly.

A trip to Otley today and the St Gemma's 99p shop saw me buying an as new M & S black fitted dress with asymetrical neckline and two black and white tweed effect inserts. A bit 'businessy' praps but it fits well and looks smart. Was in a good mood after finding a nice dress but my mood dissipated upon having to wait an hour for the bus home!!! Pfffft
I think the photos in the link are from the charity’s own website, and were taken in December so it’s acceptable to have a Santa in the window!
Inspired by @goldfinches’ visit I ended up having a mooch around the same shop today (they have a display of beautiful wedding dresses in their window, not a Santa in sight). I saw the blue tagine (it’s lovely, but I wouldn’t use it enough to warrant giving it cupboard space); the table of new jeans was sadly depleted.
I came away with a 12-18 month old size winter coat (Next, brand new) and three little winter dresses (JoJo Maman Bebe, Next and H&M) for my littlest granddaughter all for £5, a thick soft pale silver grey fleece throw for me to drape over my knees while working from home on chillier days (£2), and a small 2kw fan heater (the lady at the till said it was new and unused, I think she had donated it) fully PAT tested for just £3.
And I drink very little - in addition to which DH would run away screaming if I tried to add any more gadgetry into our tiny kitchen!
So 'River Cottage: Booze' may remain for the quickest person among you who happens to be near Blue Cross Northallerton!
I don't think I shall leap onto the saddle of my bicycle as I'd probably still be pedalling at Christmas time! I meant to say what a good find the River Cottage books were, I have the mushroom one which is a very useful reference. It's dreadful how much the loss of a book you have loaned rankles isn't it, I still remember losing a much loved novel nearly thirty years ago and how difficult it was to buy a replacement copy. @Miro - jolly good find for your dress, what are you going to wear with it?
Scallops. A host of legends surround this, one of the loveliest of seafoods, except when overcooked. My favourite true story concerns the young lady scallop preparation worker, interviewed by the 'New Yorker' Magazine. When asked for her honest opinion of the shellfish she said "They don't have much personality". From Patrick Anthony's International MENU Dictionary.

So much to read, so little time.
I'd have snapped those up too
Toiletries used up 27/188.
I'll just have to make do with re-watching River Cottage on DVD.
They were very good finds though
