I also got some black Zara trainers and a brand new M&S knitted dress for £10 each in Sense.
I bought my husband a very nice cableknit Superdry scarf. I bought myself a scarf and another two dresses. The Harp store.
I was looking for boots as it was raining here yesterday and I wore my brown ankle boots for the first time in ages and one of the soles has split. All the boots I saw today were either size 4 or 5 and I am a 6 or sometimes 7 so I was unlucky on that score.
That hair care product looked so good thought I'd order myself some, @Wednesday2000 - then I saw it's £25 for 100ml so I'll pass on that. Fantastic find!
All good finds, in fact. A shame about the boots, better luck next time.
Here are my car boot finds from Bedale this morning (they carry on till the middle of October - 15th? - so I'm making the most if it). Cassell's Household Cookery book (pub 1910) £3. I have a collection of early C20th cookery books, sometimes I even cook from them. Callipers for crafting £3 Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food 10p Book of slow cooker recipes 10p (I bought it for one recipe intending to try that then pass it on - then I found several I'd like). 2 large bags cooking apples £1.50 Soap making kit £2 (I have a recipe for soap using supermarket ingredients. This kit gives me moulds, starter tablets of soap and a dropper. I think one or two other bits have been taken out). Cake slices from charity stall £1
I've bought so many cookery books recently! If I moan about being bored in winter, remind me of them.

Not teetotal but also not near North Allerton.....I think. .....off to look at a map to actually see where that is......
When you get to York, keep going north. If you get to Scotland, you've gone too far.
Alternatively, go to Kendal and head due east. Or get the Edinburgh to London train and get off halfway down...
When I moved here, I'd never visited before and had hardly heard of it. That was nearly thirty years ago. I've heard it called 'the graveyard of careers' because people move here, like the pace of life and settle down.
Some lovely bargains today, people. I have no idea whether I'd ever use a dinosaur tray should one come my way, but it radiates quality. I should think things like that become heirlooms.
Well I knew it was up north somewhere.....should have gone there I guess when I used to live at York but that was 36 years ago!! Now it would be the Bournemouth train to London, underground to Kings Cross and then up to York and beyond....the bargains would have to be pretty terrific!!!
So instead I was looking at Freegle and saw someone had a big bag of toiletries on offer - of no interest to me personally but I could gift a gift set if there was something special. What did interest me though was it included 2 wooden soap dishes - exactly what I've been looking for - at least I think I'll like them but haven't been sure enough to actually pay for them. Anyhoo - sent a message and won the freebies and picked them up. The soap dishes have never been used which is great. And apparently I won out of several people because I said I really just wanted the soap dishes but would take the lot and give whatever else to the food bank where I work. Second time that has worked out for me
"Never retract, never explain, never apologise; get things done and let them howl.”
@goldfinches Probably will be wearing thick black tights and either black leather riding stylee boots or me ‘bovver boots’ I think and a grey pashmina with the 99p dress. Oooh I hate thinking about winter clothing already!
Handy as a not-quite-full-on-black funeral dress too.
Well, that’s a thought!! Hopefully not needed for that purpose tho 😒
@goldfinches The ‘Birkin’ is the 35 size in the light tan shade or what Hermes call ‘gold’. It was in the Headingley branch of Mind on Thursday. Actually I inherited a similar but genuine one from an aunt who collected handbags. They are very bulky and very, very heavy, only used the bloomin’ thing once, cannot recommend!!

You did better than I did - it was a completely new area to me when I came. And I see what you mean about the bargains - they would have to be colossal to make up for the cost of travel! I'm not even sure travelling from York could be repaid, though I've had a few amazing car boot/charity shop bargains this summer. Actually, when I think about it, getting an instant pot for £20 and a microwave for £5 a few months ago probably saved me over £150, so that would have covered your travel costs. (London to Northallerton can be done without changing trains).
What a good idea to donate spare items to the food bank. Our local one needs all the help it can get as needs increase.

We headed off to Thirsk car boot sale this afternoon, but so did the rain and by the time we arrived, people couldn't get out of there fast enough. We went on a charity shop trawl instead (for those who haven't been to Thirsk, the charity shops are round the outside of the market place). We also discovered a proper antiques place but didn't buy anything there.
So my bargains were: Oxfam: book by Joyce Meyer (£1.98) British Heart Foundation: necklace £2 Cancer Research: toy for DGD 50p, tiny china house to go in my dolls' house 50p.

That said, I do want to visit York as it's a fine city by all accounts! Next summer I think.
I had a reasonably good chaz-day as the work I was having done at home wrapped up sooner than expected. From the first 2 books for £1.50 (at 75p each expensive but ones I wanted to read) and from the second a blouse and 4 books for £2. £3.50 well spent.

Thanks for the info about the weight and bulk, you've completely stopped me hankering after one of my own. I shall content myself with wondering how the people carrying them manage to balance so insouciantly with a heavy load on one shoulder.
I popped into my favourite BHF shop today but alas the household shelves were much barer than they usually are and nothing appealed.
Scallops. A host of legends surround this, one of the loveliest of seafoods, except when overcooked. My favourite true story concerns the young lady scallop preparation worker, interviewed by the 'New Yorker' Magazine. When asked for her honest opinion of the shellfish she said "They don't have much personality". From Patrick Anthony's International MENU Dictionary.
I went for a trip round various charity shops a few days ago and was surprised that two of them were shut, due to lack of staff/volunteers. Of the ones that were open, the chain ones like Barnardos and Red Cross were much emptier than usual. Wonder if this is a sign of the times that people aren't donating so much or if stock is getting bought more from charity shops as people can't afford to buy new?

By the same token the few chazzers I nipped into were heaving, so much so that I walked out of 2 without browsing!
