#4 reporting £1,422.58
despite having a small Christmas bonus and commission at work this month I had a lot of big expenses too, annual car insurance and breakdown cover, several vet bills (though I got some back from insurance too), had to have a plumber out again (even though I had to redo everything he did for me), Christmas gifts, and some other home maintenance brought the total down.Pleased with how well I did though and need to redo my budget for next year as I think it needs some tweaking. I expect my pet insurance to rise a bit due to losing my old dogs no claims bonus and it’s got impossible to stick to my food budget with inflation.1 -

Did my annual review and my wealth hasn’t grown by as much saved in this challenge, I guess because I did spend a large ish sum on new heating (which I did not count as a deduction here as it was from money gifted to me not saved by myself) and the market being down a bit I assume. Still up compared to the end of last year though, all being well this time next year I might hit my first goal of £100,000!2

Here we are then - my final post on the thread after 10 years' saving towards Financial Independence (FI) and achieving it recently. Feels a little surreal saying that.Reporting £403.23 for December making a total saved this year of £12006. As of December 31st I'm officially retired from the world of work - setting a future savings target doesn't really make sense now so I'll not be signing-up to the 2023 thread.I'll keep running our expenditure spreadsheet and look for good deals on insurance, broadband, groceries, everything else. Obviously the initial aim is living within our means, from the various income streams - pensions, investment returns, interest etc. But then the fun element will be exploring what we can do with our free time and cash - some travel, volunteering, evening classes, supporting good causes, helping our boys out etc.I want to say a huge thank you to everyone here who has offered support and encouragement - and especially of course to SlowlyFading for running the Thread so well over all these years. Best of luck to you all, and Happy New Saving Year!Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.5
