If you're with First Direct just ring them up and say you want to pay your Barclaycard. They'll do it for you over the phone and take the money from your current account. All you have to do is to give them your Barclaycard number and the amount you want to pay.

That's what First Direct was invented for: telephone banking.

    Thank you.
I do use the telephone banking a lot. I didn't realise that I could pay the credit card in that way.
I'll certainly try this, it sounds easy, so hopefully it will be straightforward.

Do you have a bricks and mortar bank locally, a so called "High Street" branch of one of the major players ?
I would recommend a visit to open a new current account and have them deliver your debit card there for collection, that removes the lost in the mail scenario. They'll also offer a credit card - just ask here for opinions if you are fortunate enough to have more than one bank in your area.
They'll help you set up online with them for faster payments - you can do this on a PC/laptop, mobile 'phone or tablet.
I find laptop for home access the best method, but the other options also work.

We pay our Barclaycards by direct debit

I'm rather surprised that you don't know you can pay BC bills over the phone from FD

If you default on the payment, the chances of getting a different card will be unlikely!

EDIT - just checked my BC - on the back it says 'Ways to pay' and one of the options is Cheque in the post

EDIT #2 - checked old statements ... some offer cheque payment and some don't!!!

set up a payee - generic sort code and account number (google it) with long 16 digit card number as the reference.
  • The OP doesn't have personal online banking apparently.

     or use your online banking

I don't have that for my current account.  Nor does my current account have a card.  I just use the cheque book.
You can usually set these up yourself by visiting the websites of your bank and credit card supplier.  In fact I have a Barclaycard that I don't use often but happened to last month, our post is terrible at the moment and I didn't have online access, it took me about 5 minutes to set up from start to finish.

It's such a long time since I set up online banking for my current account that I can't remember how easy it was, however if it had been hard I should think I would have remembered!

Get your online banking sorted out.

And if you wait for your barclaycard to default just to pay by cheque will ruin your credit record for 6 years, get debt collectors involved and stop you getting credit elsewhere
  • Why can't you setup a direct debit?
