Tried to setup a direct debit today but was told not possible as account is still transferring. Of course it’s in their best interests to delay it for as long as possible, can’t believe this is legal.
It may well be in your best interest to delay setting up the DD for as long as possible - the money is in your bank earning interest.

May well be true, but the amount of interest at today's rates is as much use a farts in a hurricane

Just noticed that the gas meter serial number that EDF have in my account belongs to one which was replaced by a smart meter in July 2019!

Why on earth would it be illegal? You have until the end of January to set up a DD and the difference between the DD tariff and cash/cheque tariff will be backdated as they've already clearly stated.
It may not be illegal but a cynic might conclude that there is an expectation within EDF that some people will take no action. I struggle to understand why the DD process should be linked to account set up which isn’t the case with a normal switch? In my case, EDF is still trying to hide behind industry processes. When I explained that when I switched to Zog, the opening smart reading was passed to Octopus the same day and a Final Bill was raised a day later there was complete silence. Were the two suppliers both guilty of failing to comply with industry processes?

Ring EDF rather than do a live chat & see if you can speak to someone in the UK rather than off shore.  Tell them the situation & that they have been sent the wrong info. They will probably ask for a photo of the meter & raise the appropriate form to get it updated. Check your final Zog bill to see what’s on there as well. Easily updated but might take a bit of time.

I wish the poster well with that. EDF has gone into a deep; silent and COVID telephone call cut off mode. I got through this morning by text but it is a tortuous process.

Thanks - I've already DM'd them via Twitter with my account number and the serial number of my current gas meter. I've found them to be pretty responsive via Twitter so far. Also have a photo ready if asked for.
  • Check your final Zog bill
Has anyone actually had a final Zog bill? Must be nearly a month now since it went. Is Zog still contactable, notwithstanding the Christmas and New Year break?

Ideally, I would like my credit balance transferred over to EDF before EDF issues its first bill, and to be able to check dates and closing and opening meter readings.

Zog is no longer trading and Final Bills tend to be a negotiation between the Administrator and the SoLR: the former is required to capture as much money as possible to pay creditors. We would all like the process to happen swiftly but I suspect that we are going to have to be patient. The SoLR process is targeted solely at keeping the lights on: administration takes as long as it takes. It is though worth bearing in mind that if this had been a normal transfer of supply then Zog would have had 6 weeks from the 15th December to raise a Final Bill. As you know, the 6 week rule is not enforceable on a failed supplier.

Edit: To put the above into context. Octopus took over Avro's 580K customers on the 26th September. This was posted on the 16th December:

Quote: We're still pushing forward with final bills, and have sent over 300,000 final bills so far – and we're working quickly but thoroughly through the rest, so if you've not had yours yet, it shouldn't be far away. Unquote

@[Deleted User] A fair point, but, although it was surprising, apparently Zog only had 12000 customers, so your comparison on that basis is not really valid. Plus the Administrator is completely different to the more usual suspects/firms.

Moreover, I understand that 'sometimes' the Administrator retains some staff from the defunct company to assist with the loose ends and migration process. This may or may not be the case here. What I will say is, again surprisingly, I have had a better response, since their demise, from Neon Reef than Zog.

Not had a bill here, just confirmation of DD setup and dates they will take.  No further updates yet re final bill or getting credit balance.
