Bit of a dilemma here.......when I first tried to switch last year all I wanted was to get on the fixed tariff....they have offered £50 goodwill gesture but I'm already on the tariff. Now if I accept it Mr BG is going into my account to credit me £50 and will/might see I'm on zero oct 22 and might think wrong tariff I'll put him back on Standard Variable. If I decline the offer of £50 and don't appeal Mr BG might never look at my account and I stay on it until Oct, or if I decline it Mr BG might still switch me back to Variable tariff.
When I first raised a complaint I ended up agreeing to £30 credit as long as they moved me from Home Secure 2024 to SVT, I accepted the outcome and next thing I know my account is moved onto Zero Fixed October 2022.

However in your circumstances I'd just make a straightforward calculation, is staying on Zero Fixed till October is it going to save you more than £50? If yes, don't do anything (as in just don't reply at all). If not, take the £50.

If you do nothing and they randomly move you to SVT just go back to them and say "oi where's my £50?"
So on the Ombudsman page it says I have until Feb 22nd to accept or decline if I do nothing and BG move me back to variable in March how would I get the £50 if I didn't reply, but also if I stayed on zero fix oct 22 could I also say where is my £50 closer to end date. Basically what happens I do nothing and neither accept or decline the offer of £50

I would accept the offer and take my chances.  I think it's unlikely that they will move you back off the tariff.  They are already offering £50 compensation, and I doubt very much that they would want to risk u complaining again if they did move u off it risking potentially more money in compensation.  I complained again about an issue after they moved me and not only did they correct the issue, they offered a further £30 making £60 in total.
As has been said previously, it is fortunate for the consumer that they don't seem to have a clue how to shut these issues down totally.  They really only have themselves to blame! (and this forum :))

Sorry I had not realised you were at the ombudsman stage already. I would echo ccluedo's comment, take screenshots of everything, download any PDF bills that show the tariff, and take the £50. If they move you off the tariff, complaint that you've been taken off the agreed tariff without your consent and ask for some further compensation.

For those who have switched to Nov23 Exclusive Fix, did you go through all the BG tariffs and decide this was the cheapest one for your useage?

I’ve done a spot check on a few of them and for example Online Fix Mar24 has slightly cheaper unit rates and the sc is about 5p cheaper. Though the risk (in terms of exit fee) that by that stage energy prices have fallen back and cheaper tariffs might be available.

I didn’t go through and calculate (probably should have done) but I’m a high user so I know rate is more important to me than standing charge.

otherwise the length of fix is as you say speculative.

I was just happy to get any of them TBH.

I haven’t seen any discussion of “online” only zero and exclusive and there were dozens of exclusive to wade through, so went with one of the ones mentioned on here.

it’s not necessarily going to be the same answer for everyone though (depends on usage) so it still
may not help you as there is no one best single tariff.

So I accepted the £50 compensation and as of this morning I've been moved back on to standard tariff and all bills cancelled and replaced

    Bad Luck :(
I would likely follow up with Ombudsman saying that you didn't realise that it was an either or.  Nothing to lose - if u can be bothered.

Good luck with that... as far as the Ombudsman is concerned the OP had his complaint and request to be moved to the tariff denied and a customer service gesture issued, so he has got exactly what was agreed.

I agree, more so as Ombudsman said being moved off was a possibility. However if grandad has the time and energy then as I say, nothing to lose.
