Oh really? Please tell me where the 'overspend' occurs when someone is 'charged' simply because the Bank will deal with debits prior to credits, even though they may have been in possession of the 'credit' for up to 24 hours?I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

so what you are saying is if someone goes over by a pound for the second time, they deserve a £35 charge0

I believe if a customer has been granted a reprieve the first time and treated that reprieve as a goodwill gesture and not thier right, then yes, they should be charged for ignoring previous advice.0

and rog, i dont know what you mean about the bank dealing with debits before credits, i have not seen any proof of this and noone on the phone has ever complained of that to me, in my bank anyway.0

The first charge isn't taken at a time when the customer can work around it, and then there is interest on top. You can garauntee that if i get paid on the 1st of each month, the bank will take the charges on the 28/29th when they know full well the pay cheque hasn't reached the account, and your already scraping the barrel to get by.
The biggest cheek of all the charges (IMO) is when the bank decides your balance of £18 wont cover a DD for £18.50, so they cancel the payment, send you a charge for £35, add interest and then expect you to contact the company the DD is owed too, and pay them plus the charges they may/may not add on top.
1 single charge from the bank could cause a customer with low income years of problems, and its not right. The cost of living is constantly increasing, so people are getting stretched to their limits without ridiculous FAT CAT bankers taking their share.
Why can't banks just get by on the interest they make for holding on to your money, or when it hits that big black hole for a week when you transfer to different accounts?
GREED is the best word to describe British banks.0 -
£35 charge for going over £1
I will probally get a telling off for this but oh well.
You are either stupid or completley insensitive to people's situations no wonder people have a go at you in your branch, if you was saying this to me to my face I would be tempted to slap you in the face.
I have got in !!!! with bank charges. I had one charge for going slightly over, which I couldn't afford to pay in the first place, it has grown and grown and grown to the point I want to hang myself because I can't afford to pay it, I was too late to get it back due to the test period.0 -

I'm still hanging on for charges to be repaid thanks to the test case, but i know that when i get them back i will have enough to clear down the loan i had to take out with the branch as a result of needing money due to the charges in the first place. How ironic?0 -

she is a silly little sheep, who has been fed a load of poo by her employers, which she is stupid enough to believe.
These charges are put in place for one reason and one reason only MAKING MONEY0 -
When a customer of my bank goes overdrawn, the day after you recieve a letter informing you of this, the amount and the day you will be charged. We take the charge a full TWO MONTHS after the original accident. You are informed of this in that period a full FOUR TIMES. In each statement before the charge, the original letter after the mishap, and a letter the week before the charge is to be taken! And if you cannot pay the charge on the day it is to be taken out which is ALWAYS the first, second or third or the month! If you cannot pay on those days, you can, on recieving the original letter with the date on in, take it to a branch and ask the charge to be taken on a day when you have been paid, as long as it is no longer than a week ahead of the original date! You cannot phone me, two days before the charge is due to be taken, call me and tell me that it needs to be taken two days after the original date, that is not possible, and a common misconception, my bank also do not charge on a charge, so, if a charge of 100 pounds goes out taking you, 150 pounds over your planned overdraft limit we will not charge you again until the next debit goes through, and even then we will only charge you in retrospective of that amount. Which is totally fair! If those 4 letters informing you of the situation are not enough, we can also text you, if you like, informing you you are about to be overdrawn BEFORE you go overdrawn so you can get whatever funds in to sort it in time or cancel any dds in time, or apply for an overdraft or speak to you branch, or whatever, on the day you go overdrawn, we will also not charge a day until the NEXT day, so if you get funds sorted on the day you go overdrawn you WILL NOT BE CHARGED AT ALL. So you can see, with all this to stop customers going overdrawn, how i have very little sympathy to customers who allow it to happen again and again.0

I was told, by my Bank, that even if a credit arrives in the Bank, at 9.00, it will NOT be credited to my account until close of Banking, that day. I was shown, on the computer screen, a screen showing that a transfer had been received and was due to be credited to my account. IN SPITE OF THIS, BG, the Bank refused two DDs, incurring £56 cost, and would not let me draw against the credit until the next day.
Forget, for a moment, the 'lawfullness' of this - it is, quite frankly, taking the p1ss.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
