My MIL had a mole problem in her last home until my wife's cat moved in with her.
When we took the cats in (in-laws went to Australia to see their daughter) the problem came back.
The problem vanished on the cat's return.
She is now retired and enjoyment limited to puddle splashing and sleeping. (Both MIL and cat).
I dread to think of the carnage that would ensue if I added a cat to boxer hq.
You might be surprised, my parents Bassett Hound was a very keen hunter but indoor cats were mostly ignored. Outdoors it was game on!

I probably wouldn't risk it myself, it only takes one incident and there could be a dead cat.

Can't help with the moles, I would probably just set up camera traps and accept the bumps in the lawn as fair exchange for being able to see such an interesting animal up close.
I really don’t mind lawn bumps I’m just worried my landlord will be upset.  Agency are coming around tomorrow so they can have a look.

Best to have a look at your tenancy agreement beforehand. It probably says you are responsible for keeping the garden in good order.  There won't be a get-out clause to cover an underground invasion. So, be prepared to negotiate.

What can I do about moles though ?

Could a Basset actually catch a cat?
We never let him off lead to find out but he certainly tried. He used to catch rabbits because the silly things freeze and he would snap their necks before anyone could stop him.

I'm not sure. You can flatten the mole hills with a spade. You can get mole catchers in. You can set traps. You can certainly discuss it with the agents, and they may be very sympathetic.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I’ve flattened them but they just come back.  I emailed them two weeks ago and have spoke on the phone to them.  I have a feeling they’ve forgotten to tell the landlord from today’s call.

I've heard of keen gardeners trying to spear the moles with a garden fork, but this seems rather cruel to me. Presumably, a few near misses might scare them off, but I personally would not like to have mole blood on my hands.

I’ve had even more holes pop up last night they are having a great time.
:D Sorry I shouldn't laugh. I have a rat coming in the garden since you started this thread. You sure you didn't send it me?

Ha ha yes everyone who makes light of my mole gets a rat.
    There's more then one now!

I'm sure your landlord can't blame you for the mole problem. Turn it on it's head and blame it on the landlord! Either way I don't think anyone could be blamed for the situation. It's just a nice place for the little moles to live  B)

The landlord can’t blame the tenant for weeds, but he can still expect that the garden is kept in good condition. There’s no fundamental difference between moles and weeds in that regard.

So you're saying that boxeer234 needs to get rid of the moles?
