Just checked my ebay watch list & so far it doesn't look like i'm gonna get anything. Can you believe the WW starter pack that was 99p yesterday is now at nearly £24 with a coupla hours left on it. people are blooming mental to pay that kinda price.
I thought you might be disappointed emma - I tried to get the sw book in the summer for my mum & dad and they were going for about £30 on ebay in the end. I couldn't understand why peeps didn't just join the club to get the books and not go to the meetings as it works out cheaper, especially during vouchers off time. Reading around since I realise there are some folks who are so ashamed of their weight they are too terrified to walk into a meeting. believing they will be the largest there. That's very sad but now makes sense as to why the books go for so much.
LL you ask if the meetings are worth it - well they were for me: I just needed that extra focus of the group w.i. The meetings were a bit Victoria Wood sketch but I made an effort to get chatting to other members and looked orward to seeing them even if I gritted my teeth for the rest of the session - only an hour a week. I lost 2 stone in 7 months - well worth the £135 total weekly cost. I am now going it alone with the forum here becasue I am so near goal and confident in myself now to keep going. As others have said, it's a very individual choice, but you've already admitted you struggle on your own. In answer to the MSE question -I think £135 is a brilliant investment in my health and future and emotional well being. And losing weight often inspires other life overhauls, from chucking loads of stuff out and re evaluating what you want from life.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Thank you all for the opinions you've shared.
I started WW about 18mths ago, after first trying to lose weight with the support from this thread.
When no weight shifted (and I knew I was sticking to the plan) I went to see Dr. It was then I discovered the thyroid problem.
Dr. told me that when my medication kicked in, 'the weight would fall off me'.
It hasn't!
I found WW awful, but went for 2 mths and stuck like glue to the programme, losing 2lb in 2 mths.
The leader and other class members were not supportive and downright catty.
I still went and stuck to the diet.
When I dicovered the reason I hadn't shifted any weight, they just said it was an excuse!
So I stopped going. I must be feeling better now because I'm ready to diet again.
I have all the items that were sold in class, scales, books, calculators, calorie list, diet books etc: but my experience at WW has made me feel very negative about them.
I think I may enrol on Monday in SW (which I followed online, when passwords were available on this thread), I found that much better for me, but I think I might need the support from other dieters at the same time.
I'll try class, but won't mention my attempts at WW, or my thyroid.
Thanks again and I'll keep you posted as to how it goes.

LL, I was really angry to read of your treatment at your WW class - how narrow-minded and downright rude! Good luck with SW, I hope you have a much better experience and meet a nicer group of people. As for this thread, you will get nothing but love and support here x
Hi everyone else, still reading, shouldn't be here so need to go! Suggs, hope you had a lovely time with your daughter, Ajax hope you're fulfilling Mrs A's every wish, hope everyone else is having a good weekend. More time tomorrow hopefully! xxThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

LL: that was disgusting treatment and I'm not suprised that put you of groups. I've had a lot of illness to contend with and my SW leader has been so supportive - as she is with others in the group. And I am very sure there are some lovely ww leaders around. A good leader would not allow group members to diss anyone else.
Good luck with the SW - I'v found it a fabulous eating plan and I've been on drugs that double my appetite and I still managed to lose the weight they had cause me to put on over 4 years. I can understand your retisance but I would have a private word with the leader about your thyroid - she should be very supportive and it will help her to help you more if you struggle to get the weight off again. As bails said - keep in with us too - you will always get kindness and support here: this is a very special group of peepsI try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Hi, hope everyone is having a great weekend
Suggs, congrats on maintaining! Hope you have a lovely time with your daughter on her sweet 16th! Well done on the new clothes too!
Victory, thanks for your post, always nice to know I'm not the only one! My BMR thingy says I can go up to about 1700 cals/day to maintain (I've been doing up to 1200 cals/day to lose weight), but I think 1700 sounds high. I am sticking at 1200 cals and as long as I don't gain, I will try to raise that to 1300 and so on. I still can't/won't snack beyond the evening meal though.
Vix, hope your study is going OK. I thought of you yesterday as I went to get re-measured in Debenhams. I've gone from 32F to 30E (sorry Suggs), I was also told that most weight losers go down in the measurement but UP in the cup size, so I don't know why I have gone down in both, and I really didn't understand that comment at all. Don't we lose weight all over?Anyway after trying on LOADS of bras, we didn't find anything that was a perfect fit so I ended up taking one that was "near enough". I feel like such a freak that nothing fit me properly! :rotfl:
QT2006 - I know this is too late for your healthy shop, but crisps were my weakness too. What worked for me was just going 'cold turkey' and excluding them completely (good advice from Victory). I knew if I was going to be serious about losing weight and having a healthier diet, I had to stop eating them. Now my tastes have changed and the sight of the multipacks I used to buy makes me feel a bit queasy!
Vix, I think the hip to waist measurement isn't a measure of whether you are overweight or not, but whether you are at a higher risk of heart disease. As I understand it, apple-shaped people are at greater risk than pear-shaped, whatever your actual size. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. LOL about the hardcore meat on the bones comment :rotfl:
Maybe Petrichor is in hiding after Ajax's comment about sub-BMI25Come back Pet! So, does WW have like a "minimum weight" (or BMI?) at which you can join? I didn't know that.
Julesgr - just awful news that these childrens' mother was taken from this world at only 33I can't even begin to imagine what a shock this must have been for you and your OH. I hope you have lots of support and people around you to help, we're here for you too. Even the most difficult things in life tend to have a way of turning out to be a blessing in the end, though it may not seem like it at first. Please post an update when you can, and look after yourself. ***Hugs***
Bails - glad to hear you're cracking on with the money saving ideas! Look forward to catching up a bit more when time allows.
As for me, not much to update on weight wise. I've been strict with the calorie intake all week, and getting back to more exercise after taking last week off. Back to twice daily "school walks" next week too which should help! My 'wardrobe clearout' stuff has left the building, and I've bought 3 new items in lovely small sizes
Good luck everyone with the coming week, and special thoughts and hugs to those having a difficult time at the moment.0 -
emma when I FIRST STARTED looking on ebay last year for the WW books, scales etc I found I was wasting my time because it was cheaper to get them from the actual meetings, so never been to a meeting before or since I gave my money to a friend of a friend that does attend the meetings and got all the stuff that way, the recipe books are invaluable ,the pedometer had a £5 off, the scales also had money off and if you bought 2 recipe books together you also got a discount, so I would suggest to get someone that does attend the meetings to get all that you need from there, ebay is a waste of time:D
1/2 price WW meals at morrisons, sainsburys, 1/2 price be good to yourself products, 1/2 price quorn at sainsburys, loads of 1/2 price on apricots, cherries, grapes etc, freezer stuffed with even more WW meals now0 -

THis is what I have followed..(got it off the internet)
Q: When you get to your healthy target weight, what’s the best way to maintain it? Should you increase your calorie intake all at once or by so many calories each day?
A: This is a really good question – and congratulations on hitting target, or at least almost being there. After weeks, months or even years of controlling your calorie intake, knowing what to do when you hit target can be scary but you can’t stick with your dieting calorie allowance forever.
While some successful slimmers prefer to immediately increase their calorie intake, others prefer to do it in steps. In many ways, this is a good idea as it helps you to concentrate on getting your extra calories by gradually increasing the portion sizes of the foods you’re already eating rather than suddenly adding in chocolate, crisps, booze and takeaways. I recommend this five-step plan to maintain your new healthier weight.
Five Step Plan
Step 1 Once you reach target, add 250 calories a day to your existing daily calorie intake. This means if you’ve been having 1,250 calories each day, you should now have 1,500 calories a day.
Step 2 After a week, weigh yourself on your usual scales. You’ll probably have lost a little more weight. If so, add another 250 calories to last week’s daily allowance. So, if you were having 1,500 calories a day, now have 1,750 calories daily.
Step 3 After a week, weigh yourself again. If you’ve lost more weight, add an extra 250 calories to your daily intake, for example from 1,750 calories to 2,000 calories each day.
Step 4 After a week, if your weight has stabilised that’s the amount of calories you need each day to keep your new slim shape. If you’ve gained a tiny amount, drop your daily calorie intake by 100 calories, for example, from 2,000 calories to 1,900 calories daily. After a week, weigh yourself again. If your weight has stayed the same, that’s the amount of calories you need each day for weight maintenance. If your weight has gone up or down, juggle your daily calorie intake by 50 calories a day until your weight eventually stabilises.
Step 5 Weigh yourself once a week on your usual scales until you are confident that you’re maintaining your healthy weight.0 -
why am i up so early?
well the 2 drinks and onto diet coke didn't work! Most unlike me as i'm not much of a drinker but mmmm, those cocktails. So a totally unMSE and unLW day. but oh it was lovely! OH and I were sitting in a very posh bar ( www.epernaychampagnebars.com) pretending to be rich and posh drinking cocktails and eating smoked salmon. What a treat. The upshot being that i was utterly s£"$faced by the time we went to see St Trinians which was an absolute riot. I totally recommend it. What enhanced the experience was that there was a little girl sitting behind us ( sounded about 10) who loved it every bit as much as we did but obviously for entirely different reasons. It really works on 2 entirely different levels and the cast are sublime. I totally recommend it. Rupert Everett was brill!0
