Hello all,
Welcome to my “Flab-free Wannabe” Diary.
Let me introduce myself, I’m Hanna, female, 23, living in Reading. I am starting this thread as a place for “Flab-free Wannabes” like me to pick up any hints and tips about slimming down. And also to have a chinwag about experiences both good and bad, both values for more and a rip-offs. Also, by broadcasting my weight to the MSE world, I'm sure I am less likely to fail.
My New Years Resolution for 2008 is "Stop moaning, just do it!" This can apply to everything including my weight, paying off the credit card and my hobbies, etc. I am aiming to spend the same amount of time doing something about my "problems" as I do moaning about them. I should be skinny in no time.:rotfl:
So here's my SOA (ooops! wrong board, but never mind). I've always been "the big girl" and at my heaviest I was around 16st 8lbs (232lbs, waaay too much meat!). Over the years, the weight gradually fell off me due to various lifestyle changes (got my first after school job so I couldn't snack before teatime, became a student so lived off baked beans, etc, etc), and last year I hit my lowest weight since I was thirteen years old...12st 9lbs (177lbs).
Then I quit smoking last year...
Although I am glad to no longer have the gremlin in my throat in the morning, they fail to tell you how nice the cakes are once your taste buds wake up. Basically, in 9 months my weight has crept up to 14st 5lbs (201lbs) and I am the upper end of a size 16 with a BMI approx 29.5.
I am going to a health spa at on the 28th April with my cousins, and I am hoping to wear the same swimming cossy as I did last summer. I think in order to do this, I will need to lose 21lbs in 17 weeks (if my sums are correct). Doesn't sound too hard when I put it like that.
I plan to do this by…
^Having a photo blog album on Facebook (eek!), taking a photo of myself on the first day of each month (and hopefully seeing a gradual slim down).
^Doing 10,000 steps per day (Office job, no dog, very hard I'm sure)

^Reducing calorie intake to around 1,500 to 1,600 per day
^Not eating after 8pm
This is the action plan...
Slim Fast, mainly. I know it’s probably not the best option to keep the weight off long term, but for an exercise-phobe, cake-aholic like me, the prospect of having milkshakes twice a day is heavenly. I have read the small print and the diet works by meal replacement reducing daily calories to around 1,200 to 1,350. (Although, I have allowed for additional snacking!!;)) This may also help to reduce the weekly food bill because I will not be spending cash on cereal and sandwiches at work.
I will hopefully be able to update this thread everyday with the following…
Number of steps taken…
Number of calories eaten…
Starting weight…14st 5 lbs
Weight now…(weighing myself once a week)
Total loss…
I am open to any comments regarding any of the above. Have you ever tried Slim Fast? Is there anything else I should be trying/avoiding?
Feel free to join me for a slimmer 2008 both on the debt and the waistband!!
Love HB
PS, I do not work for Slim Fast. I am merely trying to see if the claims are true.

blimey you guys! I turn my back for a couple of days and you rack up 6 pages! Do you know how long it took to read 6 pages? ( i was scared of missing something good).
Well, I am NOT weighing in till next week, and day one is tomorrow. Just spent 4 days in Glasgow with friends- plenty of good food, good drink and a few little walks. Still, i have had a wonderful time. Beanie, I have alos been a bad gorl over christmas, everything that crossed my path went in my mouth but that's now in the past.
Welcome to all our new peeps, hope you are going to enjoy our thread, this is an excellent resource for weight loss but also lots of fun too!
Bails, hope your quiet new year was everything you hoped for - We ended up on a muddy hill watching all the fireworks go off in Glasgow city centre, it was lovely!
Missy, my dance mat did arrive and I have been doing half an hour a day on it like a good girl. I get Thursdays off because thats when I go on my rounds for my small business. It does get your heart racing which is cool, i think i need to think about handweights next though. There seem to be quite a lot of birthdays coming up january . . . . .0 -
Heya HannaB!
Fab to meet you! Seems like we both have the same idea...stop moaning and just do it! I too am fed up of weight and debt etc and am determined to sort it once and for all! I have spend ages yo-yoing up and down weight wise and this debt is also got way out of control. I have woken up this morning with a new attitude...was too hungover for it yesterday! 2008 is gonna be my year and am gonna sort my life out and get happy! Fair play to you for wanting to put your pics on Facebook...I wish I had the guts to do that! My profile pic is of me when I was 3 years old! And I hate it when others can tag you in a picture  . This year there are gonna be a lot of changes, including cutting back on the alchohol which will also help my debt as it is very expensive! Stopping with the baddie foods and trying to cook old style when I can. Not following a diet plan as such, more a complete food overhaul! I am a single mum too so trying to get the DD involved so we can eat the same food...thus cutting back debt wise again as before I was cooking her a separate meal!
Better go as have to dish up our tea...cooked spag bol from scratch and have left out the spicy stuff form DD portion so hopefully she will eat it!
Good luck:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0 -
Yes please add me to the Jan challenge I am starting tomorrow and heading back the the gym next friday. I can only go twice a week for a couple of hours but that has got to be better than not going at all!!Goal weight....lighter than when I started0

Hi Donner,
Thanks for the post and the support!
You'll never guess what...spaggy bol for us for tea too, how weird!!
Very nervous about the Facebook photo blog. Especially as most of my "friends" on there are from primary school and I haven't spoken to then since I was 10. I plan to take my first piccie tomorrow with the digital camera (if I can work it).
Good luck with your New Year changes, seems like a fresh start all round for everyone. Yey!

The first chart of 2008 peeps. Just think how those total loss numbers are going to go up this year.:j :j
Some excellent maintains and only small gains overall. But slimmer of the fortnight is definitely Efrieze with a stunning 3.5lbs :T . And just another 3.5lbs to go until joining the 100lbs lost club! Jillie1974 has also done very well – choosing to join us just before Xmas rather than after and her efforts have been rewarded with 2lbs off.
I’ve highlighted new members in blue for this week only – welcome all of you and look forward to seeing those lbs add up – keep posting for max motivation. (It’s a welcome back for jojilufc)
Thanks for all your kind words re my current health problems. I’ve really enjoyed doing the chart this week: it has given me something positive to focus on.
Anyone who’s name has disappeared and is still very much wanting to be in the Jan challenge – I’ve only ‘hidden’ your name and not deleted your current loss, so just post you latest loss/gain and current total loss and I’ll put you in for next week
Starlight, retiredlady and justmarried & skincatt: sorry if you didn’t see my Monday post (number488 on page 25)giving your Dec19th total loss, which asked for whatever losses/gains you had posted over xmas to be posted again in relation to you 19th dec total. I haven’t been able to update your figures as I haven’t heard from you but as soon as I do I will update the chart.
Victory: since 19thDec you have gained 3.5lbs which is why it doesn’t show 5lbs. Your total loss on 19th Dec was 78.5. You lost another1.5lbs and then gained 4.25lb by this Monday and another .75lb today. (I know you will still be gutted but you will get rid of that 3.5lbs: you have everything in place) So 78.5-1.5+4.25 +.75 =3.5 And that's over 2 weeks.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
hiya
i have been on slimfast for about 4 months and have so far lost 2 and a half stone, still two more to go but i've not found it too bad. i have 3 kids and find that i don't have to think about breakfast or lunch and then we just have a low fat meal for tea. i'm really pleased with how i've done, but have been taking plenty of exercise which i never did before.0 -
hi everyone right finally managed to catch up only took me since 2.30 this afternoon. Hope everyone had a good time over the hols. Thanks to bargain babe for my secret santa - purple ronnie xmas place mat set, wine glass charms, some very sexy red washing up gloves with white fur trim & pearls & a lovely book for my DD.
Xmas here was lovely my DD is at the age now (2 1/2) where she can really enjoy it. She had her presents from mummy & daddy here xmas morning then had a paddy when we had to put her coat & shoes on to go to my mum's. Once we were there though she was ok, so cute & really funny. She was bombarded with presents from my mum & dad & my sister & a few from other members of the family & family friends. She started unwrapping her presents there at 11.30am & because she had to play with everything as she unwrapped it finally finished at 4.30pm. We got back home just after 12.30pm & managed to escape with just a couple of slices of strawberry gateaux.
We stayed home on boxing day & were really bored. Went shopping on the Thursday & got DD's ears pierced (she only cried to 2 sec until she was given a lollipop & was promised a mcdonalds). Went to mum's again on Friday, then went into norwich for more shopping on sat & guess what I finally managed to get a new coat. Its exactly like the one i was supposed to be getting from my catalogue but a really nice cerise pink instead of black & was only £20 in the sales so got it with the money my MIL gave me for xmas. Sunday went for a walk into town & back then monday had to do a charity shop run for a tv/film character fancy dress party & came back empty handed so ended up finding a knee length black skirt in my wardrobe, short sleeved white blouse with a little black belt i got in the sales with some killer black heels hair up in a bun & wearing my glasses was miss moneypenny, put my OH in his suit and as he's not got a lot of hair left he was sean connery's james bond & put DD in her fairy costume & she was tinkerbelle from hook. She was really cute & was dancing to the music playing & getting fussed over but got really tired & asked to go home at 11 so my OH took her home & left me there to enjoy myself & my parents dropped my off on the way home at 2.45am slightly merry so didn't get up till 11.00 yesterday & that was only cos DD woke us up I guess i was lucky she decided to have a lay in.
Yesterday decided to have a spring clean & my parents came to tea. OH went to back to work today so spent today catching up on here not even dared to look at my emails yet or my freecycle emails. Had a brief look on facebook earlier too found a couple of you lot on there & added as friends.
With all the crap I ate over xmas I am so pleased only 2lbs went on it could have been so much worse. My mum bought us a set of WW scales so now don't have to venture into boots every week as they weigh exactly the same & some electronic kitchen scales so I can now weigh my food properly as it go down to 1/4 oz which is brill.
Anyway Day 1 today although did just finish off that trifle that was left from yesterday I did reluctantly share it with my oh & DD
Oh welcome to all the newbies - Taffy where abouts in norfolk are you? I'm in Thetford nice to see another Norfolk Dumpling on here too!!
Sorry for the long post there was a lot to catch up on. Take care everyone!!Life is like a box of chocs ..... i've got a soft centre but I ate the whole box.

Don't panic Victory that little bit will come off in no time. You have lost so much and I can understand why a gain, however small, is scary. But it will soon be gone .... don't over react, you don't need to.0
