Yep... I could walk/cycle to the gym... I just know that needing to do that would make me an awful lot less likely to go! Will probably stick the idea on hold for a while, at least til it's not pitch black outside and chucking it down (I know, I know, rubbish excuse :P)

Vix, luckily for me, my course is craft based, and doesn't involve any exams at all. Also (and I can't decide if I like this bit or not), but only the grades from my final year count towards my result. One part of me hates it, thinking that that makes years 1 and 2 a bit of a waste of time, but then, I'm also loving the fact that they aren't going to hold my mistakes from now against me!

Yea, kinda the same here. For the past two years its been totally assignment based, i passed my HND with a merit overall which was a bummer, cos year one i totally screwed up! Now im topping it up to a degree with is half coursework half exams which is fun :p I just think its a bit mean to have been studying tourism things for the past two years, then getting taught business at degree level with no business knowlege what so ever. Who ever writes these courses is a bit of a weirdo!

anyway, i better go and revise :( was going to go into college today but the weather is so yuck i might give it a miss and stay at home and do it!

Bails: Im sorry! I am half trying to lose weight, i do a little bit of exercise each day, but i just havent got the time with exams coming up to do anything but sit on my backside for most of the day :( at least ive not gained right!!? :p

Good luck with the weighin. It is hard that a the media presentation of been healthy inferes we have to be slim. I know I have lost a whole person in weight, but still I see myself as 'not slim' But if you have been 'big' for 30+ years, I guess I am not going to change that thought process overnight. I just have to keep reminding myself that I have changed :)

I know what you mean about the thinking and needing to be slem mentality...I'm focussing more on my fitness at the mo as I'm achieveing more there than with the weight loss....

cor, putting it like that sounds good seren!

I wish i believed i was thin also. It would help if most of my friends werent beanpoles. My greek friend has this amazing body that i would die for. Then you get people who say youre thin, then you get people who say youre fat, and then thats how you end up in this forum! or it was for me.

i need to go shopping, i might have to go to matalan, its too wet to go anywhere else here in kent.

Some good results there :) well done you. I remember the first time back in the gym 2 years ago, I, like you, thought the cross trainer would kill be off, all arms and legs, and shattered after a few mins.I guess your doing weights as well in the gym?? and the apples and elephants are running totals?

    Gald to help :)

Serendis, cracking the 'eating for a million other reasons except that you're actually hungry' problem is a real toughy, so don't beat yourself up about it. I have done a LOT (and I mean loads) of work on this and I still slip up sometimes, but overall I really have managed to change my eating habits considerably. It seems that you're focusing more on the exercise (which is fab!) and that's a great place to be for this next trick: instead of denying yourself any food, everything is 'allowed' - the only thing you have to do is OBSERVE what you're eating. When you reach for some food, whatever it is, say to yourself just before you have it 'That's interesting, why am I eating this?' [no need to say this out loud :D]. That's all you have to do, you can still eat whatever it is, and not feel guilty about it. Over time you will start to become naturally aware of the reasons you are eating or about to eat something, and also naturally you will stop feeling that you want it, before you eat it! It's not a conscious decision-making process, it just happens. Honestly. It won't happen overnight anf you may not even realise it's started working initially but one day you'll just catch yourself putting down the cream cake/chocolate bar/packet of crisps, maybe part way through, maybe before you open it. If you're anything like me, this'll come as a shock to you when it happens and then it starts to happen more and you'll feel GRREEEAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! :D You may think I'm talking mumbo jumbo but it has worked for me so why not give it a try? You've got nothing to lose, except some lbs!

  • interesting thoughts there bails, very sensible. I shall give that a try. I think i need a better reason for eating stuff other than 'because it tastes it nice' which is my main downfall i think! I'm much more focussed now than I have been for ages and I had forgotten what a kick i got out of planning for syns and earning things as opposed to just stuffing it down. I also seem to have broken that cycle i'd got into of thinking that once I hit over 15 syns I might as well just carry on.
  • Thanks Bails.
Really good advice which I have been putting into action over my lunch...the salmon sandwich and babybel was because I was hungry...the french fries crisps because I was still somewhat peckish and fancied someting crunchy....the plum met its demise as then I fancied something sweeter...the orange almost got eaten because I had packed it....then I thought...hmmm....why not save that until three-ish so I won't be as hungry when I go down the pub :D

That's great news KPC, I'm really pleased for you! :T For me that 'kick' is because I am in control, not the food. With the observation of what you're eating, try to always think the phrase 'That's interesting...' rather than 'Oh b*ll*cks!/I'm so cr*p/I'm such a fat cow' or whatever self-flagellation phrase you normally use :D Good luck with it, I'd be interested to see how it goes; give it time though, it's a very strong cycle you're trying to break.

Ajax, was ROFLing about the book, especially the 3rd review; I would have DIED! The question is, how are you going to get GN reinstated now?

Suggs, hope the hospital goes well and you're back playing rugby soon; it sucks when you can't play your sport.
Get well soon Victory, add some honey and ginger to your hot lemon.
