I have finally gained access to my new Shell Energy online account. The opening reading on the 27th September is 200 units out (to my disadvantage). I did submit readings to Green Energy over the changeover period I also took photos of the meter on the changeover date.
Anyone else noticed an incorrect opening meter reading? can this reading be disputed with Shell Energy?

Yes, I have access to my Shell Energy account and my opening Electric reading is correct, but my opening Gas reading is incorrect, far too high and bears no relation to my reading on the 27th October submitted to Green.

I've submitted evidence via their online help form, asking them to correct it before they start billing me.

Not heard a thing since from Green since they went bust and not from Shell since they advised of Tariff.

  • It is increasingly apparent that there is a difference in the treatment by Shell of different customer groups, despite their protestations. Some customers are virtually up and running with Shell, while others have been told they are not even on file.  Even for the fortunate ones, it seems that Shell are having to use estimates for opening readings, in the absence of information from Green/their Administrator.

FWIW I have relayed this feedback to Ofgem.
It could be as they say they are doing it in batches, it occurred to me that Green may not be exporting data from people that did not provide final reads.  It could also have been that batches were created by people who had cancelled direct debits or simply in order of age of account or even alphabetically.. Who knows the logic of Shell and Green, complete omnishambles.

I've had a random estimated read appear on my Green (leccy-only) account page... dated 16 October!! Funny, as they stopped being my supplier in late Sep...mind you, if shell use that as opening read, it'll be a bit cheaper for those extra units :)
Interesting point, certainly any read up to Sept 30th would be cheaper at Green but which part of CEASED TRADING do Green not understand.

I'm not defending anything. I'm being pragmatic in the light of having been through the SoLR process before and bearing in mind the unprecedented numbers of accounts being processed at the moment.

People ringing the SoLR for no good reason are just delaying the process for everyone.
As explained before, a customer contacting a call centre in India, South Africa or Poland has zero impact on the people doing the import and reconciliation of accounts.

I have been through SOLR before too, the Administrator would not take calls and I never got my money.

I recalled my Direct Debits and got it back but these faceless Administrators are not friends of customers.

I got my money back by being patient and submitting meter readings when asked.

So, I just logged on to my new Shell account, expecting to see the standard "welcome" message that's been displayed. Only this time, they're saying that they can't get my direct debit details from Green and I should go ahead and cancel.

There's also a prompt to supply my details to set up a new DD with them and supply initial meter readings !

I would have automatically cancelled my direct debit straight away, if only for the fact that they (Shell) told me to keep it active

i'm pretty annoyed they suggested keeping the green dd active as they have taken 2 lots of £59 since going bust and i would have preferred to have saved the money and paid it into my new shell account - i notice they say £104.84 is my estimated monthly usage but suggest £122.00 as a monthly dd, almost certainly because the dd monies have been going to green rather than shell https://www.shellenergy.co.uk/account/summary

Recall your direct debits, the company ceased trading on 27th September so had no right to take Direct Debits after and have not handed the money over to Shell, furthermore if you have a credit balance then Green are in breach of contract because their ceasing trading has "frustrated" their ability to fulfil the contract to apply the payment to energy which they can no longer do.

Anyone having difficulty submitting a meter reading to Shell Energy using your online account? The new readings state that they have successfully been submitted, although the new readings are not showing on the meter readings page.
Yes I find it difficult to upload reads when there is no account created for me and not been informed when they will have done this.  I am holding out just in case they lose my account and I do not get charged for energy,   I gather than in such circumstances an energy company can only claim the last year of energy.  I had a neighbour once who had no water bill for over 20 years.

  • I also switched to Sainsbury's from Green, with a final debit balance (pending validation).
Still waiting to get a final bill, which I imagine will take some time. I cancelled my direct debit before they managed to take it.
I would note that Shell did initiate a switch to them after I had already switched to Sainsbury's, but I managed to get it blocked.

Not heard a thing since from Green since they went bust and not from Shell since they advised of Tariff.

I took the advice of someone on here and contacted Shell via their FB page (even though I hate FB and usually avoid it at all costs). They took my details and got my account set up - it's not active for billing yet, but had my opening readings in it.

I didn't ever receive a reply to my message above but I've just logged into my Shell account and the opening reading for Gas has been corrected and my subsequent reading also accepted.

No sign of being asked to set up a direct debit or anything yet. I cancelled mine with Green as soon as they went bust as I was in credit and didn't want them taking any more money.

But that's two months now that I haven't paid or received any energy bills. It's going to be a big one when it finally comes.
  • Lot of strange information being bandied about here.
Any direct debits that have been paid to Green will be used to go towards a final bill & won’t disappear.
A final bill will be produced for Green showing their prices up to the date they went bust & then Shell’s prices up until the date you are transferred to Shell’s system. Same read will be used for final bill & new Shell account.
The charges for the usage will be taken from the accrued credit & whatever the final balance is, whether it is a credit or a debit will be transferred over to your new account with Shell.
This will possibly take a few weeks as Shell will most probably want to get the accounts set up first before starting to produce the final bills.
Anyone who has done an indemnity claim with their bank - claiming payments back from Green that @PascalG has advised, will need to make sure their final bill is correct as although the money is paid straight back into your bank account the same day, it can take 2-3 weeks for the bank to recall it from the energy company so depending when the final bills are produced, credit could still show & you may get a new final bill stating you owe money.
