Well my final Avro bill is on the Octopus website but not on Avro's, no matter.,  Paid with the credit I had with Avro so that's a relief.  No bill as yet from Octopus to cover from 26th September till 29th November, the last readings I gave them, so not sure when I will receive that.  With 446 electricity units and 46 Gas units since then I am expecting a fairly heavy hit, especially as it's two months worth.  Can't work it out with all the formulas and I'm awful at maths but with Avro's rates I think it looked like £144 for Gas and £75ish for electric, and that's not even Octopus rates,  hope I've done my sums wrong and over predicted!

I would guess you have over predicted. Your actual rates will depend on the region you're in, but on the Octopus rates for the Midlands I get something like £105 for electricity and £75 for gas for the usage and dates you give. That assumes you have an imperial gas meter too. If you have a metric meter, the gas cost will be more like £37.
Thanks Victor.  Mine is Imperial.  So 46 gas units in two months at Octopus's 4.01p/kWh and 26.11p/day S/C and 446 electric units at  21.37p/kWh and 26.11p/day S/C.  and that's with trying to keep gas on for a max of 1 to 2 hours a day!  The old Shell standing charge tariff of 15p per day seems a loooong time ago now!

OK, so 64 days between those dates.
46 hundred cubic feet of gas to kWh is 46*2.83*1.02264*39.6/3.6 = 1464 kWh, assuming a CV of 39.6, which will be close.
The gas cost comes out at ((64*26.11)+(1464*4.01))/100 = £75.42
The electric cost comes out at ((64*26.11)+(446*21.37))/100 = £112.02

Thanks Victor really appreciate that.  Oh dear, It was only a few months ago I paid only 39.76 for a monthly usage of 47 units of gas and 55 quid for 327 units of electricity with Shell.  Looking at £20-£30 more a month for each now based on that.  Going to be a long winter!

1 unit of gas is about 11.4 kWh so depending on your gas price it's around the £21 mark then 60 days of 26.11p equals £15.67 so the gas bill should be around the £40 mark. The electric would be around £90 then the SC of £16 giving about £106 for the electric. Around £150 in total for the combined bill, this is using my rates, yours might be lower or higher but not much. The gas would depend on whether it's a smart meter or a ft3 or M3 meter for gas.
Someone please tell me what money is

@wild666 but the meter is Imperial, so 1 unit of gas isn't 11.4 kWh it's more like 32kWh. The gas price is closer to £60, as calculated by victor21 two posts above yours.

Here`s a handy link for converting your imperial gas units into KWH.

    For you:
    13.2 × 1.02264 × 39.8† ÷ 3.6 = 148.7

    For you:
    121.8 × 1.02264 × 39.9
    † ÷ 3.6 = 1381.1

Bit curious, could it possibly be due to rounding the CV?
In the second one, a CV of 39.91697 gives that answer, but in the first one it would have to be 39.65672, which doesn't help explain the 39.8 shown.

I'm still waiting for an email reply explaining this from Octopus as they've forwarded it to the appropriate team for rechecking. At the same time I also asked them to check why the Estimated Annual Usage figure for Electric is only half what it should be.
If I look at the "View my balance history" link on my Octopus Dashboard it shows the gas usage for the relevant gas entries above as being:-
For the first one it shows usage as 148.68 MJ which covers 26th September to 30th September. To arrive at 148.68 (which would round to the 148.7 shown on the statement) it requires a calorific conversion rate of 39.652 in the formula which would round to 39.7 not the 39.8 shown.
For the second one it shows usage as 1381.08 MJ which covers 1st October to 31st October. To arrive at 1381.08 (which would round to the 1381.1 shown on the statement) it requires a calorific conversion rate of 39.9165 in the formula which would also round to 39.9 which is the rounding shown on the statement.
I've since put my meter readings in on 30th November covering the period 1st November to 30th November with gas usage of 181.0 m3 but not had the statement yet. On the "View my balance history" link on my Octopus Dashboard it shows the gas usage as being 2056.64 MJ which would round to 2056.7 and a calorific conversion rate of 40.0 would be required on the statement to arrive at that figure.
I'll wait to see what explanations Octopus provide for these discrepancies.

I received my first Octopus bill today and I am not at all impressed with their arithmetic.

    From my bill:

    For you:
    0.9 × 2.83 × 1.02264 × 39.2† ÷ 3.6 = 29.6
but I make that to be 28.36...

    and

    For you:
    24.1 × 2.83 × 1.02264 × 39.3† ÷ 3.6 = 760.1
and I make that to be 761.40...

Anyone care to check those numbers for me, please?

The combined error works out to a penny in my favour so not worth making a fuss at this point but I can see troubles ahead!

They do seem to have small discrepancies. I make the bottom one 761.272, but still their answer doesn't match.
If we assume it is the CV that is shown incorrectly, it would have to be 40.9 for the top calculation and 39.2 for the bottom one. That is a significant error on the first calculation, only lessened by it involving a small amount of gas.

Haven't had an Octopus bill yet, but will be interesting to see what they do...

    Thanks for checking for me.

Is your Estimated Annual Usage figure for Electricity approximately half of what was shown on your last Avro bill as myself and at least one other forum member have also reported?
