    Hi Guys,

In a bind now. I am with Oct with the same tarriff as most of you guys.

What is the general consensus now? Do we stick with OCT or do we move? Also, fixed or variable?

Thoughts - my bills are to expensive now for me to even afford.

There is nowhere to switch to that's cheaper than the current cap.
There is nowhere to switch to that's cheaper than the April cap.
(There are one or two loyalty tariffs that are cheaper than the April cap, but to get those you would have had to switch to Scottish Power or E.ON Next 6-12 months ago.)

You should be using less heating by April. The crunch will be next winter when prices remain high and consumption goes up.

Fell free to run the numbers at the comparison sites for yourself.

"Flexible Octopus" will  be no more expensive than the Ofgem cap, as it applies at that time.

I've just received an email from octopus saying my credit refund has been processed and will be in my account within the next 5 days.

I'm an ex-customer who'd left before they went bust.
Money arrived in my bank account 5 working days after the email.

If you think you have found a cheaper variable rate then make sure you are comparing the actual kWh and standing charge costs, not just looking at the estimated monthly DD...

  • February v1 version of  Octopus 12M Fixed today.

Slightly cheaper than January v2 tbut still not worthwhile for myself in my view, unless the world goes horribly wrong (variable would have to go up by 75% in October for it to be worthwhile immediately, 55% in October for it to be worthwhile if I switch in March, 40% in October for it to be worthwhile if I switch in April)
    Electricity
      Unit rate:35.24 p/kWh
      Standing charge:24.01 p/day
    Gas
      Unit rate:9.01 p/kWh
      Standing charge:26.1 p/day

Yes, mine too. I had moved from Avro before they went bust.
Although the refund has taken a while to process, credit (no pun intended) to Octopus for ploughing through the "mess" left behind.
