Well I put my monthly readings in this morning and the calculation appeared instantly under balance history.  Within an hour I have received a bill so an improvement on last month.  It is frightening though.  I've halved my gas usage from what it was January 21 and have used 75 kw less Electricity than same time last year.  Last February's bill was £113 with that high usage, this February £108.  Only £5 difference despite using half the gas and a lot less electricity.  What's even more frightening is that with a 54% increase which is coming in April this months bill would be £166.67 for a monthly usage of 1026.67 kWh of gas (33 units - imperial meter) and 241 kWh of electricity, and that's not taking into account what it could jump to in October.  It's just not going to be sustainable for people.

Finally got the account from Avro transferred over yesterday and a statement produced. Not without its problems though. The electricity meter is an old E7 SMETS1 type. Avro didn't have E7 tariffs and it had happily run with them on a single rate tariff with "day" and "night" readings provided every month but the usage consolidated into one. Octopus took the account and showed E7 rates for it. Last October got them to put it on their single rate "Avro" tariff, but the first statement produced is using E7 rates. Don't want E7, haven't used it for years.
Waiting for an email response from them...

I changed from Pure Planet in August to Avro.
Avro took one payment and then ceased to trade pretty much the next week so I have been left in limbo because I cannot access any of my readings for electricity.

Octopus have sorted the gas one out but they are having real trouble getting the reading for elec.

I am terrified what my bill is going to be considering I haven't paid elec since Aug/Sept.

I never wrote the readings down and Avro/Pure Planet accounts are dead now.

Any thoughts on what may happen?

    Thanks
    M

You can start taking readings and checking your usage now each week and use those figures to work out an estimate of your bill up until now so you can put the money aside. It will be a guesstimate but your usage now will be higher than Sept so if you multiply your current usage by the number of weeks using the octopus tariff, it will give you a ball park figure.
Did you give Octopus a reading when they asked for it in September?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply -

No I didn't - I changed over and I've been giving meter readings for the Gas but there isn't an option for the Electric in my account

When Octopus took over, I had an email to ask me to submit initial readings. They weren't showing up on the online account but now that I have finally got my bill today, they have been used to calculate the bill since then.
Did you not get that email at all?
You really need to start putting money aside now if you haven't been doing so.

Hopefully all the old Avro accounts will be sorted before the next rise in the price cap in April !!
  • I switched from green to Avro, effective 20th September 2021, six days latter both ceased trading so I'm still waiting for my outstanding credit from green (to be paid by Shell Energy who took on green customers) and I'm still waiting for my first bill from Octopus. I hope I get it soon as I'm moving home in a few weeks!

Mine came today. I haven't been notified by them that it's there, although it needs paying within 14 days, I just happened to log in on the off-chance and spotted it sitting there.

  • I keep checking my Octopus account. I suspect my situation might be complicated by the fact I was with Avro for only 6 days - I've been issued with a final bill from Avro, a grand total of £2.94 for 6 days with exactly zero units charged for electricity during that time.

Octopus have taken over the DD from Avro as they said they would but they haven't actually taken any payments. I know roughly what I owe, so there won't be any problems for me, I'm happy to keep the money in my own savings account earning a princely 0.5% interest pa!!
