When my House Troll was a small House Elf and picking up germs the three days that he was in nursery then bringing them home to share for the remaining four days of the week, decent vitamin supplements fixed the problem. The kind with extra "immune defence" properties. For what they cost it may be worth a try to break the cycle of illness for you and dh. It didn't stop the small person catching things but it stopped them being passed on to me.1

@CRANKY40 - funnily enough, DH said exactly the same thing this morning! So I am on the hunt - thank you.
@Blackcats - thank you. It has been a tough couple of months with illness. Yes, the estate agents have a lot to answer for here in my opinion. It's just unbelievable the level of prices. And also that people have the money (stupidity) to pay it.
Yesterday was relatively spendy. £87.10 in WR, then £9.46 in M&S. Spent £8 in B&Q on some plastic sheets so the DC can do crafts/painting without wrecking the carpets, then another £16 something in WR again - went in for glue for crafts - came out with that, bottle of wine, salted caramel ice cream and a lottery ticket. Today we are going to garden centre for cake/coffee this morning then to MIL this arvo. Need milk again even though bought 4l yesterday - we have 2l left and also need to send DC2 in with a litre tomorrow to cover off his nursery milk for the week (yes, despite it being 80.75 a day that only includes a morning cup of milk, toast and biscuits/fruit in the arvo - any extra milk/lunch/snacks have to be supplied, plus nappies). Think DC1 will be off and with MIL tomorrow.
I did smile to myself as I was walking out of WR yesterday with the wine and ice cream in my arms (other stuff was in my handbag) - must've looked like I was on for a good night in!0 -
Not really the estate agents fault though tbh, though I'm sure you appreciate that. Central banks'/governments' policy of money printing and low interest rates causing inflation and forcing up asset prices. The effects are very evident in the stock market as well.0

The effects are very evident in the stock market as well.I am house hunting right now and I can see how houses are sold for much higher than the asking price because several buyers are interested.I have been in a situation where the estate agents have asked for best final offers, and then rang other interested buyers to say somebody had increased their offer and “would you like to increase your offer?” My answer being no, since, as I’d done my research, my offer was what I thought the house was worth.»The road to DF is long and bumpy » Greensaints0

Yes I agree with that also - and the kids have money invested in the stock market which has grown a significant amount this year (my parents gave them both a significant sum when born and we added to it early on) so they are winning - just us who aren't!!!
Just been to MIL's and saw SIL who doesn't want us to leave. Argggghhhhh.. It's all SO difficult. And we really do love the house we've found here (though MIL thinks that someone else is under offer on it as she has been speaking to people locally?! - anyway, will check with agent in the am).
Even if Devon isn't a go-er, it is at least a trip away for DH and I without the DC, which we do need.
DH currently making butternut soup from stores for us to take for lunches this week. Will stop me buying a southern fried chicken baguette!
DC1 is having to have sessions with speech and language in a couple of weeks - there is some delay there and we have concerns he has additional needs - decided I will take him for a hot chocolate/cake after each session to just have some treat time together.0 -

My youngest had delayed speech... he's 6 now. At age 3 he literally spoke 5 words... took him to speech therapy, preschool suggested referring him for an EHCP and said he wouldn't be able to attend a mainstream school. I was quite bemused at the time, I knew he was behind on his speech as he was my 5th child and could see he wasn't where he should be. But he was smart as a button and understood everything and I was certain it was just a speech thing.
Anyway, as part of EHCP, he was seen by a paediatrician, educational psychologist, audiologist, speech therapist. They wanted him to go to a special school, but I said I'd like him to go to mainstream. He got an EHCP in the end.
Anyway, long story short, by age 5 he had completely caught up.... we were very relieved! They reckon he had some form of verbal dyspraxia.. he had it all in his brain, but couldn't get it out. His EHCP was cancelled after 2 terms.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's on a spectrum somewhere, he's weird with certain environments/situation etc but I reckon most of us are if we delve deep enough and he's just a special character as far as I'm concerned
Definitely worth looking into it and getting your DC any extra help he needs though... if they're on someone's radar, they don't slip through the gapsDFD March 2025 (£35000 paid off)

@ohdearhowdidthathappen - thank you, that is reassuring and glad all worked out for you! Spoke to the head of his nursery yesterday and she said I need not fear, he will be mainstream school but it may be (and she's not yet sure) he needs a little additional help there with some things. She also feels let's get the S&L cracked first and see what's left after there. She said he doesn't really like playing with other children and has high levels of anxiety - I feel very guilty as think he is picking the anxiety up from us because we have had such a difficult year - re the playing with other kids, I think maybe he feels a bit like me like people don't like him/he doesn't fit in (which he probably gets from me) because when with his cousins he plays so well with them. Anyway, we have the starting point of support which is good. He also sang the whole 10 green bottles song to me this morning (3 times!).
Day off today. Yesterday wasn't a NSD but a LSD - £2.45 on 4 x kitkat chunkys (needed as doing 10 hours of doc review and cheaper than the vending machine(!) and £1.45 on litre of milk (v. expensive here). Took in soup for lunch. Went to see another house here yesterday and it was just laughable what they wanted for it and what it was. We could afford it but just said to the agent, we are not paying that for this. House under offer on not moving yet - spoke to agent - the people we are buying from are under offer on the house they want but the people they are buying from haven't found anything. So we are still "looking" in the interim but we do really love that house and I can really see us being happy there. So we shall see.
DC1 was off nursery yesterday. Spent the day with MIL. DH took him to docs at 5 and it is HFM. Also had to have a PCR test so have to wait for results of that before he can go back - so he might not be able to go in tomorrow. It is really so disruptive and I can't be off work as we have target number of docs to review and I can't do it from home as our internet hopeless.
Might need more milk today but DH can get or I can pop out when he comes home for lunch. Lunch is soup from stores again and dinner also from stores. Spent £44 on 2 x boxes of nappies for DC1 (when he will start using a potty I do not know but wish he would!). That is 224 nappies so should last us a while. £348.49 budget left to last until 20th - need petrol for both cars. Probably should also take MIL out for lunch as she has helped us out so much recently so that, and 2 lots of grocery shopping, will probably put paid to the rest of this month's budget. I'm also taking some clothes back so that should be a £30 refund.
Oh poo and I need glasses - so that will def take us over. I still have my birthday money of £300 so might use that for glasses. Work give us £65 towards and I still need to claim back the cost of the eye test from them - £59. I must go and get the glasses on saturday!0 -
Rebecca - I'm pleased you have had some conversation about your son. It can be worrying but as nursery rightly say you can start with speech therapy. I would recommend a book called The Power of Quiet -by Susan Cain - it's about introvert/extrovert and as a strong introvert I found myself reading and thinking "ah that explains that" and "that makes sense". It helps with parenting as it puts a different value on how society judges children and adults.1

@Blackcats - thank you, I will check that out.
Rubbish day at work. Atmosphere is terrible (can't go into why as is outing) but let's just say everyone unhappy. Been a spendy-ish day. Both DC were up lots in the night last night and we are exhausted again. So coffee on way to work - £2.30. Had to get my dad a birthday card from the DC - £2.50. Spent £1.46 on postage of various things I needed to send. £3.40 on a baguette. £1 on 7 time out bars for work (only ate 1). Then needed milk (obvs) and got us a cake on way home so £5.25 total.
One good thing: DH was going to go get us a huge outside store thing because ours got blown to smithereens in a storm. However, he's worked out he can fix it with glue so saves us ££
Day off tomorrow. Going to take DC to garden centre to look at the xmas stuff and soft play. Will take snacks/water so as not to buy any. DH has band tomorrow night so I can't WAIT to watch what I want to on the tv!!!!0
