Utility Point to Cease Trading

I did read on the EDF website under the UP transfer Q and A, that they intend a 3 week turnaround of full migration to EDF. Even allowing for that, it's going to be heading into November to get a switch completed, if there's anything left worth switching to.Doc_N said:
There is an element of guesswork here, but I've seen nothing to suggest that EDF took these customers on at anything lower than these rates. It's always possibly that the tariff will be lower, but I'm sure if that were the case they'd have said so. Not letting people know the rate they're on is inexcusable in my book, and I'm amazed that Ofgem are letting them get away with it. It's like going into a restaurant without any idea of the bill.Dave_save said:
I've not yet received the rates which EDF will be charging me. Having looked at the Deemed Rate file, it does state that these rates do not apply where EDF has been appointed as SoLR. Have you been told by EDF that this rate card is applicable to ex UP customers?Doc_N said:
My apologies - used the wrong link! Corrected:bristolleedsfan said:
I thought looked very cheap "Electricity and gas credit prices are effective from 1 October 2020"Doc_N said:
These are the EDF rates that now apply:sam1970 said:My supplier now is showing as EDF but apart from an email few days ago informing me of the move I had no confirmation of what tariff I will be on. How do I find out the tariff so I can compare the to other deals?

For me, at any rate, it's identical to the Deemed Rate referred to above.0 -
Time to transfer will at least partly depend on the number of customersmacgyver said:
Yorkshire energy to Scottish power took about 45 days in Dec 2020Cisco001 said:Anyone know how long the transfer process will takes?
I just have my month DD taken.
Yorkshire Energy had 74K while GNE had 360K customers
Utility Point have 220K customers
I suspect the general chaos in the energy market at the moment may also play a factor0 -

It is due to be taken on 1 October. Fingers crossed then all will be well. However they already owe me £100.00.K2rool said:
I originally canceled the DD and asked Santander to reinstate it, about 6 months ago I switched to Santander the automated email had the old details shown am pretty sure it's just a bug on DD system they use displaying the original detail on sign up since the DD payment come out my account fine today.CRISPIANNE3 said:I received confirmation from UP saying the dd has been reactivated but it quotes the old sort code and account. Even though I was switching bank accounts and the dd was transferred to my new bank it is quoting the old details.
You were right! Even though the former account details were shown the dd was taken from my new bank. At least now I know the dd will be transferred and I will be put on a better rate than the cash/card alternative.0 -
Just a minor update to say that Utility Point have taken a direct debit from my bank this morning. I half expected it to go out with the direct debit first being cancelled and later reinstated.

Same here. UP took the payment today. My credit balance just got bigger.poppellerant said:Just a minor update to say that Utility Point have taken a direct debit from my bank this morning. I half expected it to go out with the direct debit first being cancelled and later reinstated.
Anyone know why EDF are taking so long to contact us about our new accounts?0 -
Maybe to keep them effectively trapped? My switch away from EDF to BG looks, despite that, to be going through OK. I can now log into the new BG account and see the correct meter numbers. The Utility Point website is still working OK for now, and I’ve got everything I need to reclaim the credit balance from EDF.What_time_is_it said:

Has your credit balance actually got bigger though? UP took my standard direct debit a week ago and the amount has yet to be updated on the UP account and still shows the original balance from the day they went under?What_time_is_it said:

Even though my dd is always claimed on the 1st of each month the credit never seems to appear until 6th.ArcadeAssassin said:

Just for information, by way of update, my switch to British Gas Evolve from Utility Point (with a few days of EDF in between after UP collapsed) still seems to be going through OK. Meter readings now called for, and switch should happen in 5 days' time.0

Many thanks - mine appeared on the account this morning. Took 9 days rather than the usual 6 but all good now.CRISPIANNE3 said:
