Santander £130 switch offer

  • Santander is a rubbish bank. Their security is poor, and they don't show pending transactions.

No wonder they are paying people to join!
  • Can be set up after (and within 60 days) per the offer terms.

No £130 for you then, I take it

That's not what active means. Active just means that they are due to be taken out the following month.
Direct debits are taken on demand, there is nothing on them that says whether they will be taken in the following month.

Some direct debits are taken every 6 or 12 months. They are still active.

You are probably confusing it with banks that pay you if direct debits pay out in a month, that is different from being active.

Thanks. Although Philw is not correct as it's true that being "setup or taken in the last 12/13 months" is necessary and sufficient for being active.

    What do you mean?

It looks like we may not need to wait the full 90 days (60/30) that they mention here:

    1. We will assess the Qualifying Account 60 days after the switch has been instructed to decide whether you have qualified for the Switcher Offer and the Cashback Payment under these Terms. If you qualify, we will make the Cashback Payment to you within the next 30 days following our decision.

As my switch completed on 11 October, and have received this email this afternoon,

    Miss XXX
Congratulations, you've successfully completed your current account switch. You can now start to make the most of your account.
We'll check your account within the next 30 days to make sure you're eligible for the £130 cashback for switching. If you've met the terms, we'll pay it into your account within the following 30 days.

So it looks like instead of waiting the full 60 days they maybe reviewing them sooner.

60 days from instructed - not 60 days from  completion. When in September did you instruct them to make the switch?  Will that dent your optimism?

Oh thats a good point, I forgot I set a date in advance (rather than the earliest date available), so that may dent the optimism lol,

I  have just checked back on my filed emails for this switch, and can see account was opened on 13 September, and switch instructed at the same time, albeit with a longer date of completing on 11 October, so that explains it.

I have just seen this tonight on ML weekly email.
I have had a Santander Select ?? Current account for good no of years.  I have not moved to the 124 lite account as I still get a tiny bit of interest each month. I think this month just over £5 for which I pay £4.
Am I able to move down to the lite account and get this £130
Currently I will be spending around £12,000 from my account to pay for some home furnishings. When this happens I will have reduced the amount in my present account .
    Advice would be appreciated

You need an account with a different provider from which to switch (not Santander, cahoot or Cater Allen). Monzo and Starling are the most convenient options for opening new accounts as they are fast and do not conduct hard searches. You can then either apply for a new 123 Lite account and switch to it, or change your Select account to a 123 Lite account and switch into it.

Instant access savings accounts offer higher interest than what you're currently receiving with your Select account.
