I applied outwith hours, about 8 in the evening, existing customer with 123Lite, and everyday Current accounts in single name. Applied for a new Everyday account and switch into it, took about ten minutes and that includes the initial funding requirement. Don't think it was time related. No OD requested and no OD on others.adindas said:I have the following products with Santander. Two of them are 10+ years,
-Santander Zero Current AC
-Santander Lite Ac with active DD which are mainly utility bills for Cashback
-Santander Zero Credit card with generous credit limit.
Never have anything bad on my credit profile such as late payment, default, court ruling, bankruptcy, etc
I applied for a new Santander everyday account last night with no request for OD and at the same time ask for switching of the non-Santander account. I am expecting to get the new account open immediately like many experiences reported in here. But the just the opposite, it got referred with reference number. Still waiting …
This is another evidence how wonderful and accurate the credit check, the robot to make the decision!!
I applied outside the working hours. Does it make any difference if you apply during the working hours or not ??

That's fine if you want to open a new account but if you want to switch into an existing account this cannot be done online.inspectorperez said:To be clear on this point re exisiting Santander customers - I completed the switch by online application without problem. No need to visit branch or make a telephone call based on my experience.
Not online but It certainly can be done by telephone as I did it this morning! I wanted to switch into my existing 1-2-3 account and had been to my local branch of Santander and made an appointment but I could not get an appointment until late next week. When I saw people on here saying it could be done by telephone, I called and, although the Customer Services person I spoke to was unaware whether it could be done, she checked, said it could and put me through to the switching team which did it in a few minutes.

Just used the number on page 2 of this thread (0800 085 2202, Option 1) posted by Bristolleedsfan (thanks for posting that!) to switch Nationwide to an existing 123 Lite account.
Switch all set up for 27 September in less than 8 minutes. The CSA told me about the switch offer without me asking.
Thanks to everyone who has provided helpful advice on this thread.2 -
I applied for the account at 19.30. Just received the OLA refs no account opening email.
I rang them they said the application is showing complete so should receive the card within thr next 7 days. No email yet.
I wonder what he said was right.0 -
Our story -
Have had a joint account with Santander for many years.
Wife and I both have HSBC accounts which could be switched as they are of no value now that the monthly savers are worth very little.
So phoned Santander to switch mine - explained that there were no direct debits on the HSBC account but since there are three on the joint account I should qualify for the switch incentive payment.
However they said that if my wife switched hers in there would be no additional switch payment - only available once in these circumstances.
So seems our plan will be for the OH to open a new account, switch in her HSBC account and within the 60 days get a couple of DD's up and running.
That should do it!

Wish I had come to this thread sooner and seen that I could switch into an existing Santander account by phone.
Given that there is no Santander branch close to me anymore I decided I would make an appointment to be sure of completing the switch rather than walking in and chancing my arm. Managed to find an appointment last weekend for yesterday at one of my closest Santander branches in Brixton. Upon arriving at the branch the staff looked at me blankly and explained that switches cannot be performed in branch and that this was not a service they provided, despite me highlighting this was a complete contradiction of what was on the website! Their only other contribution was to tell me to open a new account rather than switch into an existing one because it was likely to go wrong…All of this compounded by the fact I had travelled 45 minutes to Brixton solely for this appointment.
Needless to say a complaint was immediately logged with customer services! Has anyone had better luck in a branch?0 -

I also told them twice that the Web site says you must go into a branch, and I was told this is incorrect and the web site is being updated.I was given the same number as quoted in this thread, and sent away.

Santander are taking their time over sending the debit card for my new Everyday account. Both Virgin and Lloyds have beaten them by 2 full working days now, and nothing arrived in today’s post, either.0
