I would love an electric but ...
Price - to get the size / spec I want is +50-75% on what I paid for my petrol.
99% of them are pig ugly.  Example - that poor 1st gen Leaf has been rear ended by a 40 tonne truck - no it hasn't, it was designed to look like that !  The Ioniq 5 is about the size I currently have but it is so ugly, those wheels are awful, diamond cut is so last decade. Most of the electrics look like they have been designed by the local college design class / the guy who designed Kryten's head - design a concept car, something no one will ever want to produce - they then go and build it.

must admit, I think pretty much all recent cars, ICE or leccy, look pig-butt ugly.... like they were the left-out extras in a Transformers film :)
    ......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Think you're in the minority about the ioniq5 there.
Definite Lancia Delta Integrale feel to the styling, one of the coolest cars ever built.
People have even done mock ups of the Ioniq5 in Lancia paint jobs, very cool.

I think the Ioniq5 look fantastic.  Unfortunately it is close to head-to-head price wise with the TM3 and cannot offer the same charging infrastructure.  Same goes for a whole raft of alternative EV's - something the brands beyond Tesla need to address.

I personally wouldn't have a Tesla, they don't even PDI their cars.
For a brand renowned for shoddy build quality, you having to fight any (example) paint issues after delivery isn't something I'd relish.
There was/is word about Tesla opening up their chargers to other brands, not sure where we are with that.
Other brands simply don't have to do it, plenty of other companies are doing it for them.
Chargers are going up at an astonishing rate, there's no need at all for Ford/VW/whoever to come up with their own branded chargers.

I'm 54 and I'm glad I'm more open to new tech than many my age.
I'm also glad I will never have to visit a petrol station again.
This £1.40 of electricity per 90-100 miles of range along with a far more pleasant drive is ace, I wouldn't go back to ICE and only a matter of time until my wife's diesel gets the bung and she's in an EV too.
I'm 56 and I'd have an EV tomorrow if I had the £

I'm 51 and the same. My next car, in a few years will almost definitely be one.Currently liking the looks of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ionic5
The Ioniq 5 is so, so cool.
But it's flipping HUGE, far bigger than I need and it means I just can't justify the extra expense over the Leaf.
Leafs are a bargain right now and still drive as well as other EVS, even if the interior is less 'screeny'

The Ioniq 5 looks just lke an enlarged Seat Leon or just about any hatchback -  from some angles it even resemble a 70's Alfasud
And I am sure that all the electricity that is going to be used by EVs - will end up jacking up the price of domestic power - which will hit us all in the pocket

    Why would it?
I've got a special EV tariff, 5p per Kwh for four hours per day (I can choose which four hours).
I can also run stuff like washing machines and dishwashers for this during this period.

I agree chargers do not need to be specific to manufacturers (and that would probably be a bad thing).

However, it is not untypical in my experience to stop at the motorway services and there will be a dozen Tesla chargers, sited away from the buildings, so available to EV users.  Then 2 other EV points right near the entrance to buildings and invariably with a selfish ICE parked diagonally across both spaces.

Not everywhere has the rate of roll-out the same as Scotland.

the posts I see about new charging points on twitter are all England.
I should check and see what the status of Tesla's idea to release their chargers to everyone is.
If I were a Tesla owner, I can't imagine I'd be very happy if Tesla's USP was taken away from me and some plum in an Outlander PHEV was using one.

Indeed, the biggest reason to buy a TM3 instead of MG5 is range plus charging network.  No understanding at all why Tesla would sacrifice one of the two USP's they have.
