So, who gets there salary paid into Chase? If so, has there been any problems? Was thinking of doing it.
I don't. Not having direct debit functionality makes it fairly useless as a main account to me.

I wouldn't. Lodged complaint over phone a week ago. Staff member took details. I asked him to read it back too.
No acknowledgement or update about it. Seems shoddy. Not professional.
The eight week time frame set as per financial conduct authority (fca) rules is to issue final response, but good practice is to issue an acknowledgement.

The same FCA rules also mandate acknowledgement and subsequent progress updates:

    Keeping the complainant informed

On receipt of a complaint, a respondent must:

    (1) send the complainant a prompt written acknowledgement providing early reassurance that it has received the complaint and is dealing with it; and
    (2) ensure the complainant is kept informed thereafter of the progress of the measures being taken for the complaint's resolution.

It's still not really a bank.
Those who say it is - what do you call a bank that can pay direct debits and standing orders?  Because it can't be the same as Chase - they don't do that.  And what's more fun is they can't even give a real reason why.
Ever started a business from scratch , let alone in the middle of a global pandemic. Takes time to get up and running.  Unsure why the excitement anyway. Plenty of other existing banks to chose from. Not as if it's in anyway a unique offering.

It is unique in offering 1% cashback on debit card transactions albeit with a few exclusions.

You logged a complaint for the lack of DD facilities? Is it a complaint or is a request for improvements? They simply do not have the facility, have not advertise to have it or attracted customers on that basis, so what you are “complaining” about? I am sure I and many others have indeed send in the suggestion, mentioned it again when talking to CS and filled the survey form with the same suggestion, but there is no room to “complain” about it

They didn’t say that the complaint was about DDs. I can’t imagine anyone making such a ridiculous complaint.

Santander is offering up to 15% but with selected retailers. Also, some amex credit cards are offering around 1% (new customers only). One amex card is offering up to 5% for the first three months. Although, must admit it's not a current account. However, you would get the section 75 protection, which won't be available via the chase debit card.

If it was, I don't know what's worse, the customer not being aware of the difference between a complaint and a suggestion or the staff member not being aware of it (and logging a suggestion as a complaint).

Your response was under a question about using Chase as main account if they had DD functionality, so was not clear what the complaint was about.

with regards to Santander or other banks cash-back offers (RBS/NatWest and some other bank have similar schemes) I do not think they could be compared directly to the 1% cashback on DebitCard transactions, including foreign spending (with some exclusions) as those offers are very specific and works with the support of the participating retailers.

What is unique with those other cashback scheme like Santander, is that you can actually switch on the cashback on Credit Card spending as well..
