What's all the fuss about the card?  Mine will probably live in a drawer.
Mine definitely lives in a drawer and won't see daylight.

The only "fuss" about the card is that it doesn't have your account details on it. If you have a problem with your details in the wrong hands you can have them changed instantly in the app and carry on using the same card without the need of a new one.
Why do people who have a smartphone - i.e. everyone who holds a Chase account - still use a physical card?
Some Android phones don't have NFC so you can't use Google Pay.
I had forgotten that. I was surprised to hear recently that some new Motorola phones do not have NFC. It is definitely worth checking that before getting a new phone.

Me thinks the card was supposed to be metal, but a last minute decision by the bean counters at Chase UK resulted in a switch to recycled plastic

And I can't use Google pay, as last time I checked Barclays aren't on it as they want you to use their app, and helpfully it conflicts with Google pay.

I don't want the further faff of Curve.

I should check if Chase would work with payments on my Garmin watch - neither HSBC or Barclays do...
  • I use Curve for my Chase, Barclaycard, and Tesco credit card transactions.

That way, all three cards can be used through Google Pay with minimal effort.

I carry two physical cards in case phone dies, or fails to work. One debit, one credit.

Doesn't explain why people are posting pics and saying the quality is good though!

There are some who value such things.  Which is fine - whatever floats people's boats!

(a card is a card to me, and most of mine live in a drawer and are never even admired, not even briefly, indeed all of them would be in a drawer if I adopted paying by google pay)
Same reason why Chase pack the card in a nice envelope with a message. Same reason they offer metal cards in the states and will likely do so here.

Curve is no more faff than Google pay. Adding cards is exactly the same and if you switch to curve as default with all your cards added, it works no differently.
But it's yet another thing to sign up to, I just wish Barclays would permit google pay access.

If you ever travel abroad, or buy things in currencies other than Sterling, then Curve is a useful card to have (along with Monzo and Revolut).

Apparently, Barclays do not consider android to be secure enough.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
