That's fine, just switch account 2 using the details of the debit card you have, even though it's linked to account 1.

I've switched around 5 accounts from Chase using the same debit card. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's associated with the switched account or a different one, the card always remains with Chase and doesn't get cancelled.

7th January 2025 - “trouble with card transactions”

Just posting this here to make other Chase customers aware as I made a purchase on the 5th January 2025 for £89.99, which went through ok on the day but now showing as pending.
This afternoon, I had an app notification to say I made a further £89.99 transaction today with the same company, 7th January 2025.
When I checked the Chase app, the £89.99 was actually showing as a reversal entry with today’s date.
Effectively, the credit entry cancelled the debit entry and increased my available balance to spend.

“We have a problem with some of our systems at the moment.
It means that some card transactions will show as a credit, as well as a pending debit. This means you might have more money in your account than you should. If this has happened to you, please do not spend this money, as we may need to claim it back later.

If you receive a notification about a refund, please do not make this purchase again.
Your payments in and out of your accounts are unaffected. Your card will work as normal in store and online.
We know you count on your bank for the important things in life. We are working as fast as we can to fix the problem and will update you as soon as we know more. We're sorry for any problems this causes you.”

You can't switch just one of your chase current accounts, it will close your entire account.
That is not true, I have opened several accounts and moved just one of them and if I remember correctly you can give your debit card number and still retain that card for the account you did not move.
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

I have received texts from both Nationwide and Chase saying that the switch is going through next week, as planned. As others have mentioned, it doesn't seem to matter which Chase current account my debit card is linked to.

I have just switched successfully by creating a 2nd chase account and using my 1st accounts debit card number, the debit card and 1st account are both still working without any issue

Chase have finally resolved the problems they were having with debit card transactions on the 7th January 2025.

I have now received cashback twice on my £89.99 (2 x 90p :o), as per their email notification today, together with an additional 1p round-up  :p

We did not reclaim cashback as part of the reversal. If the transaction qualified for cashback, you will have earned cashback twice on this transaction, up to the monthly limit.

Be careful completely closing a Chase account - You're burning your bridges behind you.
They won't let you ever open an account again
I think that this is blackmail. These new online banks seem to have this process. It’s like don’t leave or else we don’t want your custom ever again. If the main banks said that all hell would break out. I don’t think it give a good impression of the business at all.

Some banks even write to you in the confirmation that you are switching away saying that they would love if you decided to come back in the future if you ever changed your mind.

Just use the last digits of the debit card you have, it makes no difference which current account it's linked to.

But you say "I have 2 Chase current accounts. 1 with a decent amount of savings currently earning 5%", the second of those must be a savings account, you don't get any interest on the Chase current account any longer. Are you sure you have two CAs and are switching one of those?
Thanks for highlighting that. I recently opened the 5% savings account with Chase and that's where my savings are held now.
I definitely have 2 current accounts: No1 (which the card is linked to) has a balance of zero, and No2 has a few quid in there and 2 active direct debits.
I vaguely recall at some point in the past that people had issues switching out of Chase when they also held a Chase savings account, is this still the case?

I had the same note from Chase when I stupidly closed (not a switch) my account with them a year ago...
