You need a fairly up-to-date smart phone that has NFC. I spent ages trying to set it up before realising my phone was too old, it must have been one of the last ones without that feature.Rebekah How do you physically pay with google?!Debt Free: 01/01/2020

Watch out for the Motorola Moto G6 Play (and probably several others).Jami74 said:

I got mine in 2019 and it is fine for NFC. My daughter got the same phone in 2020 and it didn't have NFC.
Her partner was getting a new phone in 2021 and she warned him to check for NFC. He chose a phone, not sure which, and asked about NFC and it didn't have it so he chose another.
Then last year my wife got a G6 Play online and we didn't check in advance and when it arrived it didn't have NFC.
So even in mid 2022 a brand new G6 Play was being sold without NFC.2 -
Chase are sending out emails to let people know that they're about to start reporting to credit reference agencies. For me this is a good thing as I didn't like that this account was 'invisible'.
Also the talk of negative balances seems like another step towards a credit card. Here's the email:We're sharing details of your Chase current account with credit agencies, and we're pleased to tell you that in the coming months, you'll begin to see Chase on your credit profile.
We'll start with TransUnion, and report monthly. Just so you know, all major banks do this already.
By doing this, lenders get a more accurate picture of your finances, so they can make the right decisions for you.
What we'll share – and what we won't
We'll share some of your personal info – such as your name, when you opened your account, and details of any negative balances – but we won't share what you buy or your login details with the credit agencies.
Don't worry, there's nothing you need to do – we're just keeping you in the loop.

It may have been brand new last year but the Moto G6 Play was released in 2018 and should be considered borderline for banking and other security-sensitive apps. It hasn't had a security patch since 2020.RG2015 said:

Think i'll stick to bank card. Known my luck I would be waving the blinking thing and it wouldn't work! At least I know a card will work

It’s worth testing it out at least, so you know whether it works on your phone. I find it liberating not to have to take cards with me to the shops.RebekahR said:Jami74 said:

My first phone that had Google Pay was launched in 2012. It's hardly new functionality for mobiles.Jami74 said:

For those who tend to buy less expensive phones, it hasn't always been an automatic functuality. My first phone that had Google Pay was launched in 2012. It's hardly new functionality for mobiles.

Received this email, but I do not think the negative balance condition has anything to do with cards, it is simply a stipulation of what can be reported to credit agencies about current accounts, and if anything cover the fact that if they started to offer overdrafts, the balance of these would be reported.TwiceNightly said:Chase are sending out emails to let people know that they're about to start reporting to credit reference agencies. I am equally hopeful that Chase would cover the gap left open by MBNA and more recently by Creation (still operating legacy cards but not open to new applicant for about two years or more already) with Travel Rewards Cards (mostly hotels).0 -

I'll put a £1 on the fact that Chase will move into credit cards with the launch of a new co-branded Amazon product. The original credit card with Newday recently ended, and Amazon has since had a placeholder saying that a new card is coming soon in Chase blue colours. Amazon is also promoting the Chase account - and Chase also provides the Amazon US credit cards.
