Just bumping this as the above still works but I thought to collate step-by-step instructions in one place.

    1. Make sure you're not logged into your Lebara account. This will not work if you are already logged into Lebara.

    2. Check MSE or USwitch for a tariff. The number to look at is not the cost of the promotional deal but the normal deal after the promotion ends as this is the one that you'll be able to transfer to your existing Lebara SIM.

    3. Once you've selected a tariff, click the Buy button on the tariff details page. This adds it to the basket and takes you to a page where prompting you to enter your name and address. Ignore this and move onto the next step (you can leave the tab open or close it).

    4. Go to https://www.lebara.co.uk/ and click the Login link to log into your account.

    5. Once logged into your Lebara account, go to https://www.lebara.co.uk/en/cart/lebara-sim-choice.html which will prompt you to select the SIM you want to apply the tariff to that you chose in step 3 above, and which is still in the basket.

    6. Carry on through to use your saved payment details to make the payment. The tariff is applied immediately so you can do this on the last day before it renews if you want to make the most of your existing promo deal before it reverts to the normal tariff.

Hope this helps, and thanks to all above who shared the initial details, I'm just repeating them with a step-by-step list that's easier to follow.
I just managed to butcher this method and use a 50% discount code on the deal that lebara was offering me. I got the 30GB deal (usually £10) for £5 forever. This is better than the 5GB for £4.95 that I was going to get with the MSE deal.
I followed steps 1-5, when I got to the basket to check out, there is a box to input a discount code, so I thought I would try, none of them worked (from hotukdeals). So I went back to my account - manage account to pick a new plan, I selected the 30GB plan and "buy". Then as if by magic the 50% discount had been applied, I completed the purchase for £5.
I don't know if I would have been able to enter a code if I just went to select a new plan on Lebara.
    Sharing is caring....

EDIT - just checked if I could add a dicount code when buying a different plan rom Lebara, it seems that you can, so no need to use this method, just see what lebara is offering you and find a 50% discount code that works.

  • I used a 50% off promo code the other month, Unfortunately it only gets you 50% off the first month. It then reverts back to full price. So not such a great deal. Still, just swapped myself out to a great MSE deal instead.

Unfortunately I also just got the 50% discount for one month, it was too good to be true. I wasn't able to get a deal using the above method, tried several times. Will try again next month. Does anyone know if you are b locked from another special deal if your current deal is an offer?
  • It would be useful if the MSE website that promotes these deals has a clear warning that you cant move from one deal to another with Lebara (and it looks like other providers from reading the above) without losing your original number.

If it is mentioned it is not CLEAR.

I'm at the stage where new deal has been bought, old number transferred to new SIM (they told me to do it by SIM SWAP) but Lebara account shows its just still the old deal - in effect they've stolen £1.75 from me (and would probably do the same again in a month if I didn't cancel everything - which I am).

Good job I've got the time and patience to sort it out, would have been better if I hadn't had to with better fuller information.

Not everybody can read EVERY forum to see if their next life action is covered by a post.

I'm not sure which bit of MSE you are suggesting should change?
The most obvious bit I can think of is https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheap-mobile-finder/sim-only/
But that mentions at the top, under point 3: "All deals are for new customers. Want to stay? Contact your provider to haggle for a better deal"

(I've added the red arrow pointing up at point 3)

But maybe you are referring to another part of MSE?

Correct, they're ALWAYS for new customers, the same as any other service. There may be the very, very odd exception but you don't need to read any forum to know that.

Some people port out to another provider, and then back to Lebara again 2 or 3 days later.
By doing that they keep their number and can take advantage of the latest Lebara offer.
Three is commonly used for this purpose as you can port out to them & back again without having to pay for a Three sim.
