My best friend in all the world is having an awful time. I just can't believe people who are supposed to love you can cause some pain and be beyond selfish.
It is so painful thinking of her in all the terribleness.Nevertheless she persisted.2 -
Ouch to the vet bill, hopefully the ulcer will clear up quickly.Sorry to hear about your friend having a tough time. Sounds like she’s going to need your support.Your mum’s food choices sound like Mr SA’s. He’s a nightmare to cater for as he’ll only eat certain things and won’t try anything different.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

How come she can't turn the oven on? Is there a gadget that can help her?I think you need to back off and let her get on with it, if she's not wanting what you feed her, let her get on with it herself, after all, she's going to have to cope when you move out.
Poor piggie, how's the ulcer happened? Hope it's not going to bother them for long.2 -
Sorry to hear about your friend Buffy and I hope piggie is on the mend.I second Jellytotts on letting your mum live with her food choices. Choosing what she eats is reasonable, insisting you cook it and eat the same isn't fair.Debt free May 2016... DFW#2 in progress

Work was horrendous today. Truly one of my worst days in 20 years. I am so tired of entitled children and how much they complain over things that even in my most open minded and caring self really are not important. Then I am sick of worrying about other children and how much I can't help them or fix them cos their parents are beyond useless and probably don't have the intelligence/ empathy/common sense to think how much their selfish cruel behaviour is destroying their children. And I don't give a !!!!!! how judgemental I sound. No I didn't have children, that doesn't make me immune to pain. It doesn't mean I cannot see the damage that is done daily.
And covid can !!!!!! as well.
Nevertheless she persisted.2 -
Actually NOT having children may well give you a clearer view as you are not "preloaded" with how you bring up children. It makes us make assumptions of how other people must do it & you don't have the preconceptions.

Could you establish a meal plan for your mum which is literally the same every week so you don’t have to think about it, and every other Sunday roast is a ready meal one?
Batch cook: cottage pie, butter chicken (Sharwoods sauce, peppers, chopped up chicken breast), cooked rice to go with it can be frozen in portions or microwave rice is fine
Wednesday is beans on toast (the right bread will freeze fine)
Thursday lamb steak (come in a pack of 4, freeze well & very quick to pan fry) with new potatoes
Friday, obvs fish, maybe with a baked potato
Saturday hopefully mum can cook or ready meal if not
Sunday roast chicken with Aunt Bessies everything else
To be honest I hate cooking day in day out and my husband does most of the day to day stuff like this for the kids, I mostly just chop the veggies, but it does seem to work.2 -

Mum doesn't like to have regular meals. As in planned ones. The biggest arguments have are over food - I am going to cook X tonight....I don't want X........ You bought it........But I don't want it.........
However, I will not go on like this. Meal plan it is.
Tomorrow night we are have chicken pie and mashed potato and peas. Thursday, Beans on toast and Friday fish and chips. Tonight she had roast dinner in packet, she didn't like it but at least it wasn't my cooking.
Thanks tho I will make a plan like yours - also am SO glad I am not the only one who hates !!!!!! cooking. Dear God I am so angry tonight.Nevertheless she persisted.1 -
If she doesn’t like regular meals or to plan, then leave her to her own devices. Ask her what she wants you to buy when you shop and get it for her, if you are cooking, tell her what you are making and ask if she wants any. If she doesn’t, smile sweetly and say ‘that’s fine, i’ll leave you to sort yourself out’.It’ll either work because it’s actually what she prefers. Or because she’ll decide it’s better to eat what you give her and not complain. But at least you can then eat what you want.2

Crikey. I decide I don't want stuff after all, but since I am the only production capacity in this house I only make work for myself! I wouldn't do it when someone else was cooking.Debt free May 2016... DFW#2 in progress
