Thanks to everyone that has posted on this thread with suggestions.
I was about to post asking how to remove stickers..but searched & found this thread - help was already at hand! :money:
Just managed to get 15 thoroughly stuck on stickers off my brothers wii guitar hero guitar using vegetable oil.
Simply removed what i could from each sticker by peeling off..then rubbed the oil on & left to soak for 30 mins & rubbed off with cotton wool. Hi Everyone, I know there has been a thread on this before but I can't seem to find it...
How do you remove sticky labels from jam jars? Or rather how do you remove the sticky residue?
Thanks!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
Hi ladyhawk,
Soaking them in warm soapy water always works for me and if there is any sticky residue a quick squirt of WD40 usually gets rid of it.

I'll merge this later to keep the suggestions together.

WD40 I've never tried but I'm sure it's has a similar oily effect as baby oil which works.
As does Fairy Power Spray, which is less MSE but does the job and it's already by my sink.
Depending on how sticky the label is, I'll use a knife to help get it off. If not good enough I'll use warm soapy water as above. And then with anything that's left behind - any of those 3 things will sort it.0 -
The way which works best for me is to fill the jam jar with very very hot water; the adhesives often melt a bit and the label can be pulled off.
If the adhesive is in globby bits, I can sometimes just roll it off with rubbing with my thumb, but if it is more widespread, I will use a little bit of white spirit/ surgical spirit or turps to rub it off, whatever is handiest, really. WD40 is also good.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I just put 'em in the dishwasher. Only problem can be you then find the label stuck to something else, like a plate, so that requires another run through the dishwasher to remove that! Eventually the label will be in the bottom of the dishwasher, if you find it at all.

Except ..... WD40 = light oil and white spirit (the ingredients) and tipping oil down the drains is an offense. And a damned expensive way of doing nothing more than leaving the jar in the washing up water when you've finished does.
I remove all the labels for the glass recycling bin from all our jars. :A0
