sticky label and residue removal

I recently bought a plastic measuring jug and I just couldn't get the sticky residue off after peeling off the label. I tried washing the jug in hot, soapy water but it wouldn't remove the thick residue.
Then I googled and found the answer! I put peanut butter on the jug quite thickly, rubbing it in well with my finger and left this on over night. When I came to wash up as usual, the gluey gunk just came off! If I get anything else with labels that are hard to remove I'll be using the peanut butter again! :T0 -
I have never heard of peanut butter but I have used Mayonaise with the same resultBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

It's the fat in the butter dissolving the oily residueAny cheap oil will do just as well (baby or vegetable
).
I'll merge this to the exisitng thread later.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
It must be the oil inside the product that does it. On googling some people used just oil but I haven't tried that. WD40 was also used by someone but I wouldn't use that on bake ware.0

Hi
Not really a MS Q but hope someone can help - how can I get a sticky label off a puffa type waistcoat? The material is like very thin soft anorak material and the sticker is the bottom bit from a stick on poppy. Seemed like a good idea at the time but the sticky bit disintegrates as i try to pick it off... I know about vegetable oil on hard surfaces but no use for this! Thanks in advance!0 -
Try blowing hot air from a hair dryer on it0
