very annoying indeed - in these days when everywhere uses these easy remove stickers why the heck anyone would use any other type beats meI had this with mine too. Isn't it annoying???
I got mine off with sticky stuff remover and a lot of elbow grease.
Not very OS but it worked.

After i have removed the labels I am left with a very sticky residue. How do I get rid of this ?0

Try methylated spirits or nail-varnish remover0

If its on the glass not the lids, I find brillo pads really good as they get rid of all stickiness but tend to scratch the lids so for those I use Sticky Stuff Remover0

Furniture polish works well,
i use it on all sticky labels0 -

I used Vaseline.
Just rub all over, and leave for 30 mins, then scrub off.0
