I always have a bottle of "Sticky Stuff Remover" in the house. Works for most things and lasts for ever.

I agree with the sticky stuff remover, Lakeland sell it and I've seen it in Asda too. It's brilliant stuff and works well on stickers - we had exactly the same problem in our current rental, there were stickers all over the windows, light switches and even the laminate floors! It's a bit dear (£3 ish a bottle) but like Mojisola says it lasts for ages and it's one of those things that I always keep under the sink.

    Hi pixie,

WD 40 always works for me...and I've used it on wooden window frames with no problems. There's an earlier thread with more advice and tips that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

  • I have lurked on here for a while, but decided to finally make the leap and start actively posting. I've had a search to see if this topic has been covered anywhere, but I may have missed it... If this post is in the wrong forum, please move it so it's in the right place!

Anyway... My OH is brewing several batches of HM wine at the moment for Christmas presents and we're using used empty bottles to bottle it up. However, we've tried to get the labels and the sticky residue off from the outside with no joy, there's either a thin layer of paper left and a nasty residue! We've tried soaking the bottles in boiling water, I even tried using mayonnaise as a method (which I learnt from Kim and Aggie the other week) but that didn't really work either!

Surely there must be some other OS method of getting rid of these labels and the nasty glue-y residue rather than forking out for an expensive cleaning product? Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance!

Hi Miss I , welcome to OS, stay posting!

Have you tried WD40 or nail varnish remover? I think there is a thread, ill have a looky! When you're searching, check you're searching "titles only" , gets the best results xx

  • Welcome to the OS board.
If I remember correctly a small dab of baby oil will sink straight through the paper and the sticker slides straight off. I think I saw Kim and Aggie use it to remove stickers from a laminate floor. H2H.

  • Oh, how embarrassing! :o I'm so sorry, I didn't realise there was a tick box to search titles only...

Thank you so much both of you for helping and for such a warm welcome! Zippychick, thank you so so much for finding out that thread for me. That's going to be so so useful! :cheesy:

Again, big apologies for being an ignorant newbie! :o

Do not be so silly! no apology necessary, we all start somewhere!

Once you learn how to search, there will be no stopping you. There is a really good thread with info which teaches you how to search - here
