Argos selling used items

It does not state 'unopened' on their guarantee it says 'unused and in original undamaged packaging' which means aslong as you do not have to rip anything to open it you can open it and look at it but not use it.
Most stores have a returns policy and most are more generous than Argos when returning eletrical goods. The only difference is that they check the goods thoroughly to distingish between new returned items, used returned items and faulty returned items - Argos seem to leave this up to the customer.0 -

Sorry my mistake there. The problem with opened items being returned is for like Playstation games for example...they all come in a plastic seal as you probably know. If someone returns one with the seal off then this is 'opened' but with the seal in-tact then we would most likely return it, as it can be resold.
Forget the whole policy a minute. Items returned should be in a fit state for resale. That is the be-all-and-end-all! It is our responsibility to check this but we do often suffer from neglect and people not telling the truth. UNDERSTAFFING is a major issue with this and it is a feeling felt throughout the business at store level i can assure you that. Problem for us is that...this is our job and we are just the pawns who take the brunt of it.
Alot goes on behind the scenes which is sometimes not praised enough for the staff working on the minimum wage.0 -
I bought a DVD Recorder for my daughter and returned it as it was not the model she wanted. I had purposely not opened the item as i knew i would have problems getting a refund. To my total amusement the CS girl in Argos opened the box "to check it hadn't been used" when they could clearly see the seals hadn't been tampered with - so no doubt that would have been re-sold. But as it was exempt from the 30 day money back guarantee i had the money refunded on a gift card.0

I don't think anyone was having a go at the Staff, more the company and it's under-staffing policies.
They should employ enough staff to ensure that used items are not re-stocked and sold illegally as new, perhaps a feature on Watchdog may change their tune.0 -
Yip you are 100% correct and your view does have a massive support throughout the staff and customers. Picture this...i would late shifts often and between 7pm-9pm we sometimes have 3 members of staff on!!!
This means we sell over 15,000 products...
we serve at....jewerelly, collection, stock room needs man-ed, customer service till and normal tills.
How this is possible with 3 people I will never know and it has let to many many people leaving the company within 1 yr!
Perhaps if more people complain to head office more might be done. This company makes millions in profits but yet does not give the customers the proper service and after-service0 -
Well I only use argos as a lending shop..
I buy something... try it and then take it back and get a refund so I can order it cheaper online and know what I'll get when it comes.:dance:0 -
If I'm buying an item full price from Argos then I will DEMAND a sealed box, after all I'm paying the full price. Even if the item is on sale, I will still demand a sealed box. Its my right at the end of the day0

had lots of bad experiences at argos - the final straw was the kitchen scales covered with flour and cake mix, when it came the box had been sellotaped back together so when i got to the car i checked them for use, took them straight back ,queued at cs only for them to say it was me that had used them, well to go home, bake and then bring them back in under 5 mins would be pretty good. contemplating bying a walkman from them but dont know now...'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

We bought an external DVD RE-WRITER and we connected it up to our laptop and then when we opened the drawer there was a Learn Norwegian language disc in there it was old and badly scratched.... needless to say we took it back and exchanged for a sealed one...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Argos catalogue is often good for ideas or inspiration for presents or even for myself but I've never known Argos to beat one of the dozens of internet companies I've used for goods.
For example i received a flier ages ago for an in-car MP3 player for £200. Not bad price i thought but i decided to check the internet.
I found the exact same model for sale in an audio shop in somewhere like Exeter (I'm in Scotland) for £55 cheaper. That's over 25% cheaper for the same item!!!!
Even adding £10 for delivery it was significantly cheaper.
Argos are by no means the cheapest but there a few places more expensive.
Keen photographer with sales in the UK and abroad.
Willing to offer advice on camera equipment and photography if i can!0
