If you went to argos to buy an item and when picking it up saw that the box had been opened would you demand a new unopened one ?
Alot of people buy stuff use it then take it back which argos resell back to the public.
also when i have brought stuff from argos , particulary electrical stuff they seem to have more problems when stuff which is brought elsewhere

speaking as an argos customer service rep I can tell you that any item which is returned under the 30 day return scheme should be unused and the packaging should be always opened and the item checked before being accepted back into stock. Some items are viewed by people though and are opened by staff and then resealed.Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards. Soreen Kierkegaard 1854.0

I bought a Slendertone belt from Argos ( the ones to tone your ab muscles) and when I got it out to use for the 1st time...I got it out the box and ...well all I can say is on the adhesive pad that goes just below the waist where...several CURLY HAIRS which i shall leave you to guess the liklihood where they came from.
Off I went to Argos for a refund who told me one of the warehouse staff must have tried it. I also complained to Slendertone who apparamtly repremanded Argos and sent me a supply of batteries and spare pads for my new one.
Very reluctant ever since toshop from Argos!0 -
argos manager tried telling me that they don't put items back into stock but I recently bought a tv link (for use with sky) and it had bits missing and was scratched (looked like someone had switched it with an old one) - it wasn't packaged up properly with cable twist ties like the proper one they gave me when I took it back.Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0

I don't mind getting goods that people have opened then returned because they don't like the appearance.
I do mind getting goods that have obviously been used, such as a kettle I bought which had water marks in it.
I've just had a rant in the vent forum. I wanted a certain Christmas light decoration but they started selling out in my area. The lady at customer services managed to locate a set some miles from my home which I drove to collect. I was furious when I got them home to find they were broken and were obviously a return as the packaging round the plug had been torn off, and the plastic thing that covers the plug pins was just loose in the box. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I also bought a kettle from Argos that had obviously been used, the box had been open the cardboard off the plug was lying in the bottom of the box and the kettle had water marks all over it!
There was not a problem changing it for another. I was still a little put out that the item had not be checked before re-sale.0 -
I bought my mum an ice-cream maker which unfortunately had some mouldy ice cream left in the bottom0

i bought a mini fridge that wasnt even the right one!Someone had taken their broken one back and i'd got it.
The fan was covererd in Dust, and it was suppose to be 12v/220v , but it was only 220v
I bought a kettle that had been used as well. When i questioned why the packaging was open the assistant said it was because someone had opened it to look at it in the shop. When i got it home and had a closer inspection i saw that it had been used.
My mum bought a sliding door, that someone had had before her, it was split and joined up with selotape.
I very rarely buy from Argos now, and if i do and there is evidence of the box being open , i ask for another one.If its the only one , i ask for a refund .
Argos are fools to themselves with their 16 day no quibble returns as people are exploiting it, and the staff are after a quiet life, so as long as its in its box , they get the money back.0 -
We bought a DVD RE-WRITER last week and we got it connected and installed but when we went to put in a DVD there was a Learn Norwegian Disk already in the drawer, at first we thought it was a promotional freebee but on closer inspection saw that it was scratche to hell ... then OH realised that the box was not sealed with cellophane as electrical goods usually are... we repacked it and he took back , after a manager took a look they exchanged it for a New (sealed in cellophane) one with no problem and an apology.....
Someone out there is missing that exciting  Learn Norwegian Disc..:rotfl:#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

That is awful, thankfully i haven't experienced anything like it although my mate bought a bikini trimmer and someone certainly had used it before. :eek:0

i unfortunately have the pleasure of working at argos and i have seen alot of the things you are describing.
the difficulty is that everyone works shifts so alot of staff dont seem to care wether the item is actually re-selable or not. when someone brings something back then it is supposed to be totally taken apart and checked and if its as new it can be put on the shelf, if not it goes off on the 30 day to be re-packaged or whatever it needs.
its not a case of them trying to sell you 2nd hand goods - if it does seem like its been opened then check it before you leave the store so you dont have to waste time going back, the likely hood is that its just been 'customer viewed'0
