  • I never accept an opened item from Argos.

In January the returns queue is about a mile long. Some items are used thoroughly for 2 weeks before they are returned and resold as 'new'.
  • I bought some hair straighteners from Argos a few years ago. When I took them out the box to look at them, there were several long hairs caught up in the metal plates! Lovely!

I purchased a Freeview Receiver from Argos, got home, opened the box, it had obviously been used, the batteries were in the remote control, the packaging inside the box had obviously been tampered with.

I immediately took it back to Argos and asked for the Manager, she immediately offerered a new replacement, however I had made a 16 mile round journey to return it, I requested compensation for my journey and she finally caved in and gave me a £10 voucher.

Lesson, seek compensation from Argos if they illegally try to fob you off with second hand goods.
  • See in Argos, when you ask for the Manager do you actually see the Manager, or do you see someone whose job is to fob people off? I ask because any time I've asked to see the manager to complain about something they wheel out this bedraggled looking person in a sort of shabby suit. If I was in charge of Argos that's what I'd do, have some patsy to take all the flak while the real manager did his or her job being a manager.

Is there really any excuse for shopping at Argos? They are never the cheapest, and shopping there is an unremittingly appalling experience. Although I admit I have used them, either because they are admittedly convenient (we have no department store in town so it's sometimes the only convenient way of getting something quickly), or becuase I used to get freebie vouchers from a consumer survey panel I am a member of - they paid for my new printer.

  • I bought some hair clippers from Argos, and they had bits of hair inside them, and greasy fingerprints all over them.

Obviously this is a common problem with Argos, it is about time they either got their act together and trained their staff, or get prosecuted for selling used items as new.

I bought a small cyclone type hoover, only to find that it lacked the tube to connect the body to the head part.

Not sure what someone would do with a phallic shaped tube!
    :rotfl:

Took it back, but checked the replacement in store for all bits
