Normally, if you are going to leave the UK for a period, you would contact the Job Centre or Universal Credit, to provide all of the information, before leaving the UK.  If you are due to have medical treatment/procedures outside of the UK, you would supply information about this from Doctors/Hospital. You would also need to explain why you were having the medical treatment outside of the UK.

You will not be able to do anything about this until you come back to the UK.  If you have any information about your own medical treatments outside of the UK, I would suggest that you keep copies of all medical records available.  When you return to the UK, you can provide the information as part of a mandatory reconsideration appeal.

So as soon as you return to the UK, if you need to make a new claim, log into your UC claim and on your homepage there is a option to start the claim again.  If you intend to submit a mandatory reconsideration about the period you were outside of the UK, then ask for mandatory reconsideration about the claim closure and submit the medical evidence required.  Be prepared to also have evidence of flight out of the UK and flight back to the UK.

The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
  •  This is the letter i got in journal :

On 28 February 2021 your circumstances changed and by the time you had told us your benefit had already been paid into your bank or building society account Because of this late notification you have been overpaid £3264.62 and now need to pay this money back. You were overpaid: Amount: £3264.62 From 28 February 2021 to '27 May 2021.

Am surprised as i left the UK on 26th march 2021 which i told them still they charging me from 28th feb 2021.

Also on journal it says .You can also ask us to look at the decision again. This is called a 'mandatory reconsideration'.

You need to ask us by 15 August 2021. either by calling them or free post.

Do you guys suggest me calling them on 0800 number or should i consult a lawyer/solicitor ? pls advise.

Looks right to me, I would suggest you look at how you can repay it.  Why would you consult a lawyer???

That it is from 28 Feb will relate to your assessment period and the 26th March falling into that period, its look at as a whole.

@kayshaw555 Agree with @sammyjammy that the journal information appears correct.

If you want to raise a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR), state this is in your journal  by 15/8/21 and advise that you will be providing more information.  You need to state in your MR why you believe the decision is incorrect, e.g. based on wrong information or they have not considered relevant information.

The debt amount will be recorded on DWP Debt Management systems and if you are not able to make repayment arrangement, they can make deductions from future benefit claims.

Thanks @sammyjammy and @huckster i cant update this on my journal as it says : You cannot use your journal to contact us because your claim has been closed.

I wanted to consult a lawyer as they also wanted housing proof letter which i cant produce due to circumstances mentioned earlier again for which there might be over payment charges which could be more than £10K. :(

Don't go anywhere near a Lawyer, as they will charge you and probably tell you what you could find out for free  There are so many free benefit advice services that know a lot more than most Lawyers.  E.g. Citizens Advice.

Sorry but based on the information in your thread, unless you provide evidence to support benefit entitlement, you will owe a debt for the amount paid, when you were not legally entitled.

What do you expect a lawyer to achieve?

The only person who can help you is your landlady.

    Agree with @huckster
You have probably already received better advice here than you may get from a lawyer.
Restating the facts of the case as I have read them, it is your responsibility to provide the evidence/proof with respect to your claim for housing. You have repeatedly stated that you are unable to do so. You have no case. You were paid money to which you can not prove you are entitled. You must now repay that money. If you do not agree with the decision, you may request a Mandatory Reconsideration. If I were a lawyer, I would have probably charged you £300 for that advice - does it help clarify your thoughts on what you should do next?
