Thanks for guidance. i was so close to making one agreement and sharing. Worst case if UC knows they will charge extra money for recovery and collect in installment . Best would be they might not verify and i wont have to pay back £10k. Am sure many people would have done that and got away with it.pmlindyloo said:I do think your best way forward is to write in your journal explaining all your circumstances.
Give them as much information and evidence that you can.
Explain when you went, where you went and why you went. Also explain that you cannot get back due to the country being on the red list and not being able to afford the isolation fees.
What you really need is an extension of time until you can return to the UK and try to sort out everything.
Of course you will also need to explain that your landlady is refusing to provide a letter proving that you are a lodger in your house. Explain that she is aged ? years and has dementia. No one has power of attorney for her and immediate family are not being helpful. Explain that it is difficult to deal with this when out of the country but on your return you will endeavour to sort this out.
It is possible that they might defer any overpayment until you have time to sort this out. It is probable that they will stop your UC which you have said is not a problem at the moment.
You have nothing to lose by being totally upfront and everything to gain if they give you an extension of time.
One of the good things about UC is that you can communicate easily through your journal as they can with you.
 Good luck.
But from what u have said is true i will write to them in details as i too believe in honesty is the best policy. Can live stress free then and focus on other things in life. Thanks again.0

It doesn't matter how old it is providing it states a liability to pay and how much. I've only ever had 1 tenancy agreement and then after the 1st year it's 1 month rolling.

If you have found your tenancy agreement you can try sending this.
However it has been said that you should not have been given a tenancy agreement as you are not a tenant but a lodger. ie you live with your landlady.
It might depend on the wording of the agreement as to whether it would be acceptable as evidence.

So now you have one although it's old. You can only provide it and hope that they accept it.

A lodger isn't a tenant. You can submit any agreement you have but just because it's called a tenancy doesn't mean that it is in practice.
You may have a lodger agreement under the misnomer of a tenancy.
Your landlady may have accidentally created a tenancy depending on the living arrangements and if there is any space they are excluded from, so for example if you have a lock on your bedroom door and your landlady can't just go in whenever she feels like it..
You can submit any document, if you can find it, but rent aside it is important to know your exact legal standing in case your landlady does threaten to turf you out again.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1
