R2k6 I'd take the deal then phone back in a few days and cancel the insurance, should get you down to £17.50. They can't technically give you the insurance for free so they seem to be charging for it then giving a £6 discount, if you cancel the insurance you'll save £6 and keep the £6 discount which made the insurance 'free'
  • Hi
18 months ago after some advice on this thread from LUFCgirl I negotiated a good tariff (£15 p/m) with 500mb data etc. and free S.E Satio, sold Satio for £250 and bought iPhone payg and used my monthly sim in it. This way worked out cheaper than £35 p/m iPhone tariff.

Out of contract now and want to do the same, but lost track of latest handsets. Which handset would I be most likely to sell and any ideas of how much I'd get? Thinking a samsung galaxy s2? HTC?

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks

150 and follow the options for 'I'm thinking of leaving Orange' or something like that. That should get you to retentions. . .

Go in with the attitude that you are wanting to leave, let them persuade you to stay. Don't say you just want to upgrade.

Good advice. Whatever upgrades say tell them NO. That'll get you to retentions who have the better offers.

I'd also call back and speak to someone else if you dont feel you getting what you can. Like the person above R2k6 ive had a bit of time sorting out my upgrade speaking to different customer service people. Came to an approximate agreement with a guy before the S2 came out on a ball park price then tried to get in back in touch with him using extension number but guy who I asked to transfer me wouldnt put me through saying he could do just as good a deal. He called me back (keen) and said original deal wasnt possible but he could do it for £31 not the £26 i was originally told. Told him id think about it and he could call me back.

Then i called back and spoke to different person in disconnections who said the £26 deal was possible so I got

    1200 mins
    unlimited text
    500mb internet (fair use policy)
    insurance
    free s2
    18 month contact
for £26 inc VAT - all comfirmed in email i requested

what I dont understand is apparantly she said the £26 price was showing as a note on system put on that day so must have been put on by the guy telling me it would be £31. Not sure how their bonuses or commission works but definitely felt this guy was not being 100% honest with me and as it turned out he wasnt.

Anyway point is if you feel you not getting anywhere just say you will think about it and call back and hopefully get someone you can come to a satisfactory deal with.

To be honest, I can't see you getting a good phone for £10 a month. You haven't said how long you want the contact over, but even a 24 month deal would only generate £240 over the 2 years. That wouldn't cover the cost of a smartphone (they're not really 'free' you know!).

You might be better off getting a sim only on contract and buying the phone you want.
My wife's just switched from payg to contract and for £5 a month (for 18 months), they gave her 100 min, unlimited texts and data (500 meg fup).
