Orange Retention Offers

Hello folks, here's my experience:
Took out a contract with Orange as a new customer almost 18 months ago.
I had an iPhone 3GS (£180ish cost), 150 mins, 250 texts, unlimited internet (750mb) @ £30/m for 18m.
I'm a light/very light user, and don't go over my allowances or use that much data. My bill has very rarely gone over the basic £30.
So I wasn't expecting much joy from Orange as I doubt that I'm a particularly 'profitable' customer.
My contract was due to end in about 6 weeks so i gave Orange a call today. I was happy with the iPhone but didn't want another one for various reasons. I had my heart set on an HTC Desire S and ideally I wanted my monthly charge to be reduced.
Not sure if i went thru to 'upgrades' or 'retentions' or wherever -(I called 150).
Was polite and friendly to the agent and explained that I was considering leaving Orange at the end of my contract for a deal elsewhere and I asked what the best deal they could do on the Desire S would be.
I was offered:
HTC Desire S - free
400 mins
unlimited texts
unlimited internet (500mb)
£15/m for 24m.
I haggled a little and got the line rental reduced to £10/m.
So accepted the following:
HTC Desire S - free
400 mins
unlimited texts
unlimited internet (500mb)
£10/m for 24m.
I'm really happy with this!almost glimpsing the light at the end of the debt tunnel...:j0 -
If anyone's thinking of upgrading from payg to monthly, I've just done my wife's.
She uses about 60 minutes a month and quite a few text's but needed data for her new iPhone. Her phone fund was at £15, so topped up by £150 over the year.
They've given her; 100 minutes (more then enough), unlimited text and internet on sim only for £5 a month on a 30 day rolling contact...
Well pleased. . .0 -
Am still waiting for them to confirm when it is released - as usual Orange are probably loading it with bloatware....has anyone else had an update on the release date apart from "early June"?
I hope they can offer me something good- one guy in retentions mentioned I'll get a very good package once it's released due to my loyalty - been with Orange about 10 years.
Phoned them up tonight. Was probably the most unhelpful chat i've had in a long time. I get the feeling they're getting a lot of calls for the phone.0 -
Anyone know why Orange are handing the Desire S out like candy? I really can't understand it.0

I have been with Orange at least 11 years. I am a very light user although I have an iphone. Lately bills are £40/£50 etc, normally as although I have barely used the phone e.g. 2 texts a months and 10 calls, I might have had to make an 0845 or i briefly strayed onto a southern ireland network in ireland recently.
I am at the point of going PAYG - I cant justify £40, or even £31 which is as low as my bill will go on current tariff. If i go PAYG on an iphone though, am I best avoiding data services altogether and just use the phone for calls/texts?
Their systems are down and I dont think I am within the 3 months to end of contract yet, but unless I can get a tariff for nearer £20 it seems to be a waste of money for me0 -
I cancelled yesterday and the guy offered me:
Any phone apart from iPhone
600 minutes
unlimited texts
1GB data
for £15 per month - I presume it was 24 months but didn't ask
I've been with Orange for 3 years BTW
I was cancelling because the mobile internet is really slow, there's not alot they can do about it so no matter how good the deal was I was going to leave! PAYG giffgaff seemed a better solution for me0 -

That's why I left, the reception is awful in my area - what point is there having 100s of minutes and a great phone if they are useless to you?0 -
I phoned retentions today, i have been with Orange for 5 years. Currently on
200 Mins
Unlimited text
£10 p/m
I was looking for the HTC Desire S; C/S said there is nothing they can do for me below £25 p/m
He even told me to try mobile.co.uk
Obviously Orange dont want my business anymore!
Requested my PAC coded0 -
Advice sought please:
Currently an Orange iPhone customer paying £45 pm for 1200 mins, 500 texts and unlimited Internet, contract ends 26 Aug 2011.
Retentions have offerred £50 payment to buy out remaining contract and £35 pm for 2200 minutes, unlimited texts and 5000MB Internet with free Desire S for a 24 month contract.
I am a band 5 customer - surely I can do better than this?0
