Just seen that Carphone Warehouse are offering the Desire HD for free on a 24m contract, £25 a month for 300 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb internet. That's better than Orange retentions were offerring me!

What do I do now? Surely Orange won't be too fussed if I say I'm going to leave them only to take out a new contract with them via a third party retailer?

go via retentions. they might offer you a better deal!

My contract expires a month today, am about to call Orange to give 30 days notice. I'm looking to go onto a rolling sim only-type deal. I'm sure I saw on here that someone got a great deal for a fiver a month? However, when I enquired in the Orange shop this afternoon, their rolling sim only deal was £20 a month for 500 mins and unlimited texts?

    Anyone got any advice?

I am on a rolling sim only deal and get 1000 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb for data for £15 a month. I simply said I was off to three. I was never even a higher spender within the contract period.

The thing is that I think I was offered 1000 minutes because I never went above 200, maybe 300 in the 12 months before - so I suspect the system gives me that much because I would never use them. However, since then I do every call off the mobile and get it into the 600 or 700 minutes! :rotfl:

So counter-intuitively, I think you can often get a better deal if you are a low but steady user simply because they never actually expect you to make use of that capacity.
  • Hi my first post on this topic so any advice will be gratefully received.
I have just retired and have been using a firm’s phone in the past but have a contract with Orange For a personal phone which is due for renewal in two months’ time. The details are a 24 month contract on a Racoon 20 package ( 200mins 300 texts unlimited call to uk land lines ) for this I pay £20.42 plus £5.11 for Blackberry internet per month. It is unlikely that I will go over 200mins certainly not over 300 mins.
I suspect this is not a good deal. What should I be aiming for when talking to retentions to renew for a further 24 months. My current phone is a Blackberry curve which is showing signs of wear.
    Thanks

im sick of trying to get a decent deal from retentions.

i want a bb torch with 500 mins and unlimited text and 500mb and bb services which i can get for 25.54 from a few websites.

ive asked orange to match this and they never can. been spending average 40 quid a month for the whole 2 year contract and the best they can do is 30 quid a month with a free phone.

think im getting my pac code in 12 days time.

So don't tell them it's with Orange...when they ask about the "better deal" you have, just say it is going through Carphone Warehouse, with a few hundred mins, and more texts and internet than you will ever use, with a free Desire HD. Remember to check out the likes of Quidco to see if you can get the amount payable under £25, and if so, tell Orange :) This process really worked for me. Good luck.

As a rough guide, I would be expecting to pay around £15 for that sort of deal, depending how much you currently use, and how much Orange make from people calling you. I would look at the deals available from the likes of E2Save, Mobiles.co.uk and others, going via a cashback site like quidco or Greasypalm. You will see my guide on page 220 of this thread if that helps. Do let us know how you get on, and good luck

Going back to my Orange UMA query

Defo email Kineto, Steve Shaw is the marketing CEO and he replies asap, its a small company aswell - impressive ! ;)

I did this and he never replied.

So, does anyone know if the kineto UMA smart wi-fi app (for better reception via wi-fi in homes with poor Orange signal) is available for non-Orange branded phones? (i.e with generic ROM)

PS: When people quote their retention deals, could they specify length of contract please?
