Hi Folks,
I'm past my renewal date on Orange and looking for advice on best route to take.
My current deal is:
£20 a month (inclusive of loyalty discount)
600 x-net any time minutes (generally half used a month)
Unlimited x-net SMS
500MB Data (near or over fair usage every month)
My bills have generally been minimal since renewal (£25 tops) however last few months have gone £42,£40, £65 (hands up who wasnt paying attention to how much data he was using!)
Now thanks to a mate getting an I-Phone 3G on release day, I was able to buy his 4 month old HD2 (ex-O2) and get it un-locked / flashed for my purposes.
So I find myself with no need for a new handset.
Would I best contacting retentions for
a) Whatever handset I can get which I could then sell on E-Bay
b) Account credit in leiu of a new handset
c) Any other suggestions.
I'm very happy to stay on the deal i currently have.
Advice of the forum always appreciated!0 -

IMO you’re on a very good deal already, although there’s no point paying for 600 mins, if you’re only using 300.
I’d call them, say you want to leave as you think you’re going to go on to PAYG on another network, and see what they can offer you as a SIM only deal.
If they are not going to offer you much, have a look at giff gaff (a new network who offer really good deals)0 -

As you say im on a decent deal (and very happy with it) so probably not up for a game of brinksmanship with renewals.
Decision im pondering is whether a cash bonus in lieu of a handset would be a realistic offer or whether getting a handset and chucking it on the ebay would be the better option
Ill maybe just give them a ring and see what what :-):T0 -
Hmm i doubt they would offer you a cash incentive tbh, but you never know.
As for getting a phone to sell on Ebay this could be a viable option. Ask what they are willing to give you and check how much you would get for it before agreeing to anything. However, be warned, in my experience with Orange retentions, they will try and increase your line rental cost if you want a handset that you are likely to be able to sell for a decent price, but stick to your guns about not increasing the price and see what they say.
If you are looking for a quick bit of cash then the latter would be the most realistic option BUT imo to make the best saving in the long run, haggle with them for a sim only deal, including only the minutes that you actually use each month.0 -
Has anyone been able to get more than 500Mb on Orange retentions?
T-mobile offer a 3Gb fair use policy which is much better. The Desire and Desire HD eat data and so I'm very worried that 500Mb data isn't going to be enough.Moneysaving since 2004!0 -
Just got a good upgrade from orange (i'm a band 5 customer):
Samsung Omnia 7
800 anynet mins
300 texts
magic numbers
unlimited landline minutes
unlimited internet (500MB fair-usage)
24 months contract
all for just 17.5 a month
basically i'm a talker not a texter so I only use about 150~200 texts a months. and according to the suggestion provided above to get the deal, thank you all for your suggestions. I really like this plan!0 -

What's a band 5 customer? Is the level of loyalty rewards you have? How do you find this out?
The deal you've got is really good. On average I do use about the same as you, but I'd like more texts basically because occasionally I go mad (like sending a special Christmas text to all my friends!) and 500Mb is not going to be enough.
They offered me the following for £20 per month:
HTC Mozart (free)
600Xnet minutes
3000 texts ("unlimited")
750Mb Data ("unlimited")
I'm going to hold out for the HTC Desire HD. I was told I can get an extra 500Mb for an extra £5.Moneysaving since 2004!0 -

Yeah I guess band 5 means you're a big spender!(top!)But you'll have to ask upgrade about that. I don't know how it works.
My loyalty discount gives me 10 pounds discount (the plan is Racoon 25/24m) and on top of that the gentlemen added 2.50 unlimited internet bundle so total is 17.5.
Be sure try to talk to different guy because some don't know how to use the system or give the customer best offer! (I was given the option of free omnia 7, 800mins,1300txts,unlmt landline, unlmt internet, magic no., 500mb data dongle for 25pm. still good but i don't use that much and the other end said he couldn't do any better plan/lower price on this phone)0
