  • Spoken to retentions today and was offered Samsung Wave(No cost) and Galaxy S(£30) both on the following:-

200 xnet, 300txts, ul landlines, keep my magic numbers, 500 mb internet and keep my Broadband unlimited (£5). for £15 mth 24 mths.

I currently have a BB 8900 on the above plan but with an extra 200 loyalty minutes which I will lose on the new plan for £20 mth
My concerns are the size of the Galaxy and also if 500mb will be enough. I won't be streaming apart from on wi-fi or looking at useing real time feeds such as facebook and twitter, just browsing the internet regularly each day.

I think I am a low band customer as I never go over my contract price of £20. Does this seem a decent deal? Anyone with Galaxy care to comment on the size of the phone.

I was told the Galaxy is out of stock at the moment and will receive a text when back in.
  • Bettingmad - I have 500MB/month on Orange, with an HTC Desire, and I would definitely recommend getting more than 500MB/month. I switched from a 2G iphone and I *thought* I was a low internet user. As soon as I got an Android phone I realised those things eat internet for breakfast. I can cope with 500MB as long as I never use the phone for streaming video or listening to Spotify over 3G. If I could do it over I would go with T-mobile who offer cheaper tariffs and more MB. I also want to stick with Orange to keep my £5 broadband, but you can now get a Galaxy for £20 with O2 or £25 with T-mobile (with 1GB internet), which would make up for losing the cheap broadband. I think the Galaxy is a nice phone, definitely the best looking Android phone out there right now, but I've got an htc desire which is also great, can't fault it really.

It seems to be hit and miss, as long as you are in the last 30 days of your contract that is when they will offer you the best deal. If you ring up with 30 days to go and select the option that you are thinking of leaving orange and then you will go through to retentions.

I’ve always managed to get through to retentions on my 15 month upgrade date rather than 30 days before my contract expires. When talking to the upgrades team I just explain that If they can’t offer me a decent deal now, I’ll just wait to my contract is up , cancel and go to another network as I have seen something appealing there. If the deal they offer me is poor, I just ask them to put me through to retentions to see if they can offer me anything better, and the last 2 times they have.

At what point during an Orange contract can you upgrade via http://!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/orange-mobile-phone-upgrades.html? is it 90 days before your contract ends?

Also would you get the £100 quidco cashback on an iphone using the above link?

    Thanks :)

You can upgrade up to 90 days before the end of your minimum term, but you won't get a very good offer. The later you leave it the better the offer. That's the way the system works, they make their money from people who have to have the latest handset and have to have it NOW!!

Also remember that if you upgrade early the remaining time on your old contract will be added to the new one. So if you upgrade 2 months early on an 18 month deal, it'll run for 20 months.

And no, you can't get any cashback on an upgrade, only on new contracts.

Yes I know that, but I’ve always just stated that if they can offer me a decent deal there and then I will sign up to another 18 month contract (or looks like it may have to be a 24 this time around), but if not, I will be cancelling in 3 months time to move to another network. This has worked for my last 2 upgrades and I have got a decent deal through the retentions department @ the 15 month mark.

I'm within 30 days of the end of my contract so phoned to see what they could offer me as I wanted the SE X10. They were really very inflexible so I just phoned back went to retentions and requested my Pac number. They asked why I was leaving and i just said because I couldn't get the deal I wanted and they didn't only give me what I wanted but they knocked another £5 off as well. Although for some odd reason I had to pay £9.99 for the phone, which they said was unusual but they have very low stock and if i waited for them to get new stock I might lose the deal. I actually believed them as the first person I spoke to said they had no stock at all of many of the newer phones and waiting lists for them.

I got 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500meg internet, an X10 on an 18 month contract for £17.50. Exactly what I wanted.

  • My pay monthly 18 month contract with Orange runs out at the end of this month. I rang Orange last week to see what they can offer.

Currently I'm on 300 anytime minutes, unlimited landline calls and unlimited texts and is £10 a month with a HTC Hero. That's from the deal I got last time my contract was up. Due to never ending problems with the last 3 Orange branded mobiles I've had (apparently all the manufacturers blame the faults on Oranges software) I bought my own sim free mobile.

My average monthly bill is around £80-£100. The offer I was made last week can only be described as a joke. If I stay with Orange they'll just charge me £20 a month (double what I pay now) for exactly the same deal. No extra minutes and no data. Apparently I should count myself lucky at being offered such a brilliant deal as I can now use the T-Mobile network too (shame theirs no reception for T-Mobile where I live). Needless to say I requested my PAC Code.

Today PAC Code arrived along with a number to call to try and tempt me to stay with Orange. The guy I spoke to apologised for the derisory past offer and hung up. Tried a second time, gave all my details told they were just checking my account then they hung up on me again. Third time what offer was I made? A free Nokia 6330i. Told them I have my own sim free phone to be told that apparently only phones purchased from Orange work on Orange. No further offer was made. Asked to speak to a supervisor and surprise surprise call terminated!

How is it possible that some people get offered decent offers and spend less per month that myself yet I'm offered what can only be described as incentives to leave?
