Orange Retention Offers

how much was the phone on top0

Hi
I have a Nokia N85 from Orange on a 12 month contract for £27.50 a month with a friends and family discount. This £27.50 gets me:
350 minutes
250 texts
500 mb data.
The contract actually expired in April and I really want an HTC Desire so I just rang Orange and was offered:
HTC Desire for £49
400 minutes
800 texts
unlimited landline calls
500 mb data
18 month contract at £20 pm.
18 x £20 = £360 + £49 for the phone = £409.
Is that a good deal? Seems pretty good to me as everything else I could find on the desire was on a 24 month contract and at a higher monthly rate.
I would've taken the offer right then but the guy said they don't have the Desire in stock right now and therefore can't process my order but would keep a note of what I've been offered on my account and I should call back when the website says they're in stock.0 -
As I'm a low paying customer, I couldn't get a great deal but in the end was pretty happy with what I got.
Free Blackberry Curve 8520
100 Mins
Unlimited Texts
4 Magic Numbers
'Unlimited' Internet (500MB)
£20 for 24 months0 -
I was a low paying customer as well - was paying £15 a month for 200 mins and ultd texts with a Samsung Tocco. Contract ends 28th August so I called to give months notice planning to go to Virgin but was offered:
BlackBerry 8520
200 minutes (hardly use any)
Ultd texts
500MB internet
for £17.50 a month at 24 months.
Was going to go to Virgin at £15 for the BlackBerry 8520, 100 mins, 500 texts and ultd internet but I most networks have awful reception in my house so I thought may as well stay with Orange and get more texts and minutes for the £2.50.0 -

Looks like a good offer to me - when will they get stock??0 -

I've just looked at the website, there's nothing to suggest it's out of stock, I went through and selected it, chose a talk plan as if I were signing up and at no point was I told it was out of stock.
Is there anywhere else I'm supposed to check for stock before I spend the next 30 minutes on the phone?0 -

Orange have just told me they have not had any stock for a few weeks and don't know when they will have any:mad:
Only 10 mins on hold though0 -
Sorry everyone, this is gonna be a long rant!
I phoned on Monday and they still had no stock but said they were getting the HTC Desires in stock on Tuesday (yesterday).
Phoned yesterday morning, still no stock but the girl said she'd call me back if they come in throughout the day. She called me back 2 hours later to say they were in and she could process my order now. She faffed about with my friends & family discount amongst other things she was having difficulty with and had to call me back twice before she could actually process my order and take my card details to pay the £50 handset cost. I was told it would be sent out for next day delivery but the phone didn't arrive today, so I phoned to let Orange know and find out what went wrong... "We don't have any in stock" was the reply!
I explained that I'd already paid for it and should already have it instead of being on the phone to Orange retentions again! He said that I should've been put on a waiting list and because I wasn't they never sent the phone to me, although it did appear on the system to him that a phone had definitely been ordered/dispatched.
None of the other 4 people I spoke to mentioned anything about a waiting list. He offered to put me on the list saying they were expecting stock in a few days (they've been saying that for a while) but I was a bit wound up and just asked to cancel my order, cancel my contract and refund the money I paid for the handset.
He said that wasn't a problem and he'd revert me back to my old contract (the new terms had come into effect when I ordered my new phone yesterday) trouble is the woman yesterday said she'd have to remove my friends & family discount to process my order and now this guy can't get it back on so instead he'd put a 10 credit on my account to cover the discount for the remaining 30 days.
He seemed to be a really nice bloke actually, he texted me my PAC code immediately and apologised a thousand times saying this was all no fault of mine and Orange take responsibility, I know it wasn't his fault and I didn't take it out on him but it still really annoyed me the position I've been put in.
Now that I've actually canceled my contract I'm hoping they'll call me back and offer an even better deal to keep me sweet but I'm doubtful it'll happen seeing as they could make more money by giving their HTC's away to full-paying customers. I'll end up paying a lot more money to go to another network as the deal I was offered was pretty good but didn't feel like letting Orange !!!!!! me about so much just because they were charging less money.
Do you think they'll call back with a better offer or should I just head to another network straight away? I'm most annoyed at the friends and family discount being removed from my account so I couldn't keep it now even if I wanted to as the friend recently left Orange.
Anyone else been messed about like this by Orange? I've had no problems with them throughout my contract, but then I've never needed to phone them for any reason until now!0 -

It seems to me that they never had any stock to start with and don't know when they will get some
They try to keep you sweet with this offer of the waiting list0
