guys just wondering. about 9 months ago i was offered a retentions contract. £10/month for loads of stuff, a really good deal. Are they likely to "continue" that deal when my 18 months are up? Despite my contract being £10/month, i usually run into £10 worth of charges making it £20/month

Probably not, as they'd have made no dosh off you.

Im out of contract with Orange. My contract is for £35/month. Im getting 600mins and unlimited texts and have the bolt on Internet. I never go over the 600 mins. Typical bill is for £50 - £60 a month. It's usually out of plan stuff that puts me up there.

What could I reasonably expect to get from Orange?

I had planned to do a SIM only rolling contract option but then would have to buy a phone as well. Monthly cost of about £20. Some of the retention deals are about £20 a month and I save the cost of a new phone.

What phone should I get? I've had Sony Ericssons for the last few years. C905 currently and like them. I had planned to go the iPhone route but for the same upfront cost I can get the 64GB Touch which more like the size music player I need for the amount of music I have. It does everything the iPhone does bar make calls. I use my phone a lot for my business so Im not sure battery would last if I used it for music player and Internet too. My wife has one and Im estimating by what her battery does.

So the phone I need doesnt need to be anything too fancy. Orange website for sports scores and checking my email when out and about is about the hight of it. I can everything else through the Touch. Though if I get something good for free, I'll not say no.

As a side note, Im currently with Virgin for my home broadband, Im about to switch land line and broadband all to Sky. What are the chances of getting free broadband from Orange as part of the deal?

    Cheers.

You should get a very good deal, given what you pay.

Maybe wait for the HTC desire, go for an 18 month contract and aim for £20ish per month...
    or maybe a Blackberry

Both phones would be ideal for business type use...
  • I have posted on the other HTC Desire thread but thought it might be useful here also.

Still no release date from Orange re. the Deisre, I just spoke to someone in Retentions and all they could say is that it would be released between now and May

Now and May- it is rubbish!!! I have been waiting for this phone to come out for two months, other networks are offering it. It is sooooooooooo annoying. I have been out of contract for six week and as such paying more as my loyalty discount finished but if they don't sort their act out soon I am leaving them after nine years!

PS what is the other htc desire thread called? Thanks!!
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

You could just leave and take out a new contract, although if you're attached to your current number, that would be problematic.

...Or if you're not in that much of a rush Jack, request for your number to be changed over to PAYG instead of upgrading. Then take out the HTC Hero as a new contact and they'll change your number back over to contract ;)
  • Update.
Partner rang Orange and asked getting a Blackberry Curve on a new contract. He was very polite and never mentioned possibly leaving Orange so not sure if he was 'hardline' enough but he did OK for what he wanted. Got the phone for free with 18 month contract, 300 mins and 200 texts (negotiated from 100 texts) and free landline calls and unlimited internet and email with the bolt on needed for £25 per month. He mentioned a T-Mobile offer which was the same but with unltd texts but the guy said that was a 24 month offer. Perfectly pleased with that and phone will be here Weds.
    Thanks for the advice everyone.

I just rang upgrades and got offered what is an okay contract. I need something lower than originally I was on. I haven't accepted, I ideally need more minutes but they give me a loyalty 100 minutes bonus on the original contract.

    Blackberry Bold 9700
    200 mins
    Ultd Texts
    Ultd Email
    Ultd Internet

    Free Handset - 18month
    £25 per month.

I'd wait for the new iPhone - you'll kick yourself if you get a 24 month contract on the current one, or rather the 3g, then a new one comes out.

Yeah after much debating I'm inclined to agree. As I'm out of contract in June anyway i'm going to wait til then and hope for some better offers. I'm not too bothered about staying with Orange as I lost my phone at a festival last year and they were less then helpful to say the least.
think will wait til contract is up and then weigh up all options.

    Thanks for advice
