    Hi

I'm out of contract on 12/4 with Orange. Currently I get 850 mins, 500 texts for 20p/m.

To stay with them they have offered me the racoon 25p/m - 800 mins/ 1000 texts/ unlimited internet + HTC desire (free - once it is released).

Is this a good deal? They don't seem to want to negiotate anymore with me.

    Thanks

I think it's a very good deal, especially when you consider what you were paying on your previous contract.

Orange contract about to expire (June but in 3 month window). Currently on Dolphin 40 but pay £30 p/m. 900 mins + unlimited texts. Think it has orange maps thrown in.

Looking for replacement phone - needs a QWERTY keyboard, thought about LG GW520, GW620, Nokia N97, Motorola Dext.

Retentions didn't seem particularly interested, said I'd got 130 quids worth of loyalty or something.

    They offered GW520 @ 32.50, same tariff but chuck in 500mb internet. Or a BB 8520 @ 35.00

Seems pretty poor. Can get much better deal as new customer from orange or with other providers:-

    Can get N97 down to £30 pm. Dext £21.39, GW 520 @ 16.50 GW 620 @ 19.44 (broadly similar mins/texts/net).

So, of the phones I'm considering which has the best rep? And, is it worth persevering with Orange? (Of course obvious problem is I actually have to make up my mind what I want so I know what to ask for!).

How much of your old contract did you use? What was your average bill?

Out of the phones you mentioned, I'd say the DEXT or the BB are the best... don't know much about the LG's,but had an LG Viewty and hated it.

The deal they offered is still a good deal, but will you use what they have offered/

Also, if you can genuinely get better deals elsewhere, then where is the sense in staying?

If you want to keep your number, you'd have to go to another network. Someone did mention porting your number to another network, then back to Orange, but not sure if you have to complete a contract with the new network first or if you can port it, then cancel the contract within the 14 days (or whatever period you have) and then go back to Orange.

    Hello

I just spoke to Orange and this is what they offered me -
    HTC desire
    £35 p/m - 18 months
    1200 mins
    550 texts
    magic number
    unlimited landline
    30 picture messaging
    blue tooth headset

    or

    HTC desire
    £27.50 p/m - 24 months
    1200 mins
    550 texts
    magic number
    unlimited landline
    30 picture messaging
    blue tooth headset

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

The 18 month contract works out at £630

The 24 month works out at £660

So the best deal is the 18 month if you can afford the £35pm contract

Very good offer... £35 pm is a bit high, but it'snot terrible and you are getting loads.

I was on a dolphin 800 £31.50 (with 10% discount) with unlimited text (3000) plus insurance and extra charges, I so far have 5 magic numbers all allocated.

I wanted a iphone, they started for 32gb £100 for phone, £45 per month 24 months contract £12 insurance and 500 text, or £7.50 for unlimited. Overall ... 64.50 Basic monthly chg since moved to unlimited text for free like vodafone and O2.

I haggled told them I wanted a deal... never give me anything at all. normally always do in the past, never paid for a new phone, was an orange premier customer. LOAD OF CRAP that is...!

In the end, kept number stayed with orange, kept old phone C902 (great phone)

and now im on a £10 per month contract with 200 mins any network any time with unlimited text, and now upto 6 magic numbers, all of which are heavily used. GF's mom, sister, best mates... so never go over my 200, well haven't yet. but still use 1000 mins per month. Including Magic numbers all free of course.

So far 3 months bills have been
    £9
£13.50 (due to 1.50 text charges for !!!!!!, that was never even asked for whatsoever)
    £10

Overall I have saved 105 quid in 3 months for no change in usage and keeping the same phone, in 12 months I will have saved enough to buy an Iphone CASH, and up contract to either £15 per month or £20 per month for unlimited usage bundles. A 45 saving over the orange contract inc insurance and extra mins i would never use.

I obviously wont have insurance, but it will be covered on other insurance, so overall, a good money saving feat.

People... check whether you really need all your mins, are you just using them for the sake of using them? So chuffed im saving £55 a month over what I would have been spending for Iphone, just to play on some App's.

The power of Apple's marketing is strong ... you just need will power not to have the gadgets your friends do have! I hope to buy the 4G HD when it comes out in due course. While friends have the old iPhone for another 24 months.

    Happy money saving days!!!

Thanks Daggy - I was wondering if it was better to go for £27.50 on 24 months as even though it is £660 - I get an additional 6 months for £30.

Thanks for your help with all of this.

    ...

    Thanks daggy,

I prefer the N97 (mini) over the DEXT - the tilt up screen seems to make using it a bit easier for my poor eyesight and big thumbs! This also seems to be a big drawback in it's reliability though...

Local store have said they can do a new orange contract (on the same number) - same basis Dolphin 40 @ 30 quid, free N97 but they did say they have had lots of problems with N97 and would recommend the DEXT as an alternative. They have a bit of leeway and will give a bit of a sweetner (about 80 quid). I was on a 500/500 contract (Dolphin 30 @ 20 quid) but did go over that a few times. Bills got to be about 80. Hence I think the 30 quid is a better contract - never been over it yet.

Still got 2 months before the official end though I can upgrade now, so I'll hassle retentions again then, they have offered an Xperia X10 which I quite like the look of, given it's about 150 quid more than a DEXT maybe I can try and get a tenner knocked off my contract - or a bill credit (don't ask then don't get).

If I go for a dext at 21 quid it's with a cash back etc, personally I've never had any problems with all those I've done but I guess I'm just lucky. Not convinced the hassle is really worth it though.

I tried to get a decent discount on SIM only but they didn't really want to play. I'm not unhappy with my current phone, but if I can get a nice shiny new one on the same tariff for only about a fiver more it seems pointless not to.

    Apparently I'm a level 3 customer.

    Thanks again.

They're so useless! Having returned my curve 8520 upgrade phone, they now offered me the same deal (800 min + 300 txt + unl landline + BB for 18m) for £5 p/m more than last time at £25 instead of £20!! I think I really might leave!

If you sign up to quidco you can get cashback for getting a new contract through lots of third parties like e2save, and with their redemption offers you can get new contracts for about the same deal at £20/m, so it works out better in the end. Very disappointed by orange this time.

The reason Orange cant give you discounts on the iPhoneis because apple fix the prices.

I'd go for the 18 month, as at £35 pm, you'll build up a decent loyalty discount over the 18 months anyway, so you should be ableto get a decent upgrade at the end.

Level 3 is medium - orange band their customers from 1-5 with 5 being the highest.. Basically a way of grading how much money they have made off you... higher you are, the more they'll give you at the end.

The N97 is a terrible phone, I love the way it looks too, but anything with symbian is a no go for me...
DEXT has android, which is a very good OS from google....

Have you thought about trying e2 save? or another external company?
I got my Gf the motorola milestone through them.... much better phone choice.
